After turning the car off then restarting, the problem clears and suspension is fine until it happens again within the first mile. Any suggestions? I was planning on checking for leaks this weekend but it's interesting that the level remains normal when this happens.
This is exactly what's happening to me, except that the car must sit for a few hours for the ASF message to clear.

When the struts are in the "Hard" mode, it is likely an electrical problem with the struts, the connector on the struts, wiring, or the Suspension Control Module.

Looks like the problem is on the left rear. The car sits low on left rear. I disconnected the battery and disconnect the electrical and air connections. When I took the air connector out it did release air. I lubricated the O ring with Vaseline and put the connectors back. Reconnected the battery. Same issue. The car rides fine for about a mile then gets an air suspension fault and goes into hard mode. After turning the car off then back on it rids OK for less than a mile then hard mode again. Is there a way to repair or rebuild the shock?

Hi HB,

I don't think you mentioned that the car sits low in the left rear before - is that a new symptom?

lcmjaguar has built a set of test gauges for the X350 air suspension that he is willing to loan to other members. You might discuss your symptoms with him to see if he thinks it would be worth testing your left rear shock for leakage:

You may have more than one issue, since you seem to be losing the CATS signal that pulses the valves in the shocks so they will operate in soft/comfort mode. But I'm surprised that it's the ASF warning that you're getting rather than a CATS fault.

I'm tending to agree with Reyesl that you've got an electrical problem in the system.

Don,

The low level on the left rear is new. When the problem started the level was fine. I'll contact lcmjaguar per your suggestion.

Thanks!

Hi HBintheKeys,

Did you get your rear air shock issue sorted out. I sent you a message back on Oct. 1st but never heard if you wanted to borrow the air tester.

I just sent the air tester off for loan yesterday to the forum member Protech. He also has a rear air shock leak so we will see what he learns from testing. In the mean time learn to navigate the forum, there is a lot of information on the air suspension system that may be helpful to you.

LCM,

Sorry for the delay. Yes I am still interested in the tester. Let me know when you get it back and I'll send you my address.

Thanks!
