Default Air suspension conversion question..

If I convert the air suspension on my 2004 XJR, will I get an "air suspension fault" message forever?

Nope, all you have to do is disconnect the module behind the upper seat back and then disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. I haven't had a warning light since.

why would you want to do that though? it's like neutering a Kitty. i replaced my air spring and it's good for the next 7-8 years at least. If I was in the market for a used jag, I would not consider an 'altered' one.

I once thought the same until my air suspension decided to fail 1500 miles from home. It took me two months to be able to go back and get it. It's the dumbest vehicle breakdown I've ever had. It's also one of the most expensive(travel time and paying a shop to do work I would normally do myself) and traumatizing vehicle breakdowns I've ever had. It of course had to happen going to my father in law's funeral. Never again.

Yes I get that it requires maintenance, but I constantly take my car on trips. I've never been stranded by coil suspension failing me. I love the car, but from my experience from my line of work as well, air suspension is one of the worst ideas ever conceived in the history of the automobile.

I for the life of me will never understand why they didn't do a design that incorporated a coil and air combo that wouldn't allow the car to completely rest on the bump stops in the chance of a bag blowout. Horribly misconceived and short sighted. Oh and my coil suspension is plenty comfortable. Yes it is slightly more harsh, but it also corners better.

Sorry to hear about that. I understand where you're coming from. I rarely take my car on long road trips (>100mi). When my old air spring failed I was less than 5 miles from home and was able to limp my way back. Also my GEICO insurance has unlimited mileage tow should I ever need it. I love the feeling of riding on a cushion of air and find it hard to go back to coil springs, like when I am in my friend's 2013 Lexus GS350, nice car but missing the velvet smoothness of the Jag.

Cheers,
Wolfy

I do agree with your statement above about completely resting on the bump stops with a bag failure. Its a pity that there is not an emergency "spacer" on the market that could be fitted on 4 bump stops.

Are the air ride struts different between the NA XJ and the XJR? From reading different posts it seems to me that the XJR struts are "stiffer".
When I look on Ebay I see air struts advertised that fit both models being the same unit.

Are the Jaguar original units date stamped? I thought I read somewhere that Jaguar says they have an "install by" date?

They are different. I've noticed most sport struts have round red stickers installed. My comfort ones had dark green stickers. Not sure on the install by date.

Default Air Shocks Rebuild

Has anyone used the products (Air Shocks) offered by "SUNCORE".
Ran across their ad on EBAY. Looks to be a good alternate to some others offered.

Cheers
