Air suspension fault

Excuse me , why there are some people in this forum stating that R-1 is the relay for the air suspension instead R-4 ?

If the rears are not going down like the fronts, I'd wonder if the compressor was the problem. The compressor supplies air to a tank in the trunk. Air is directed to the struts through valve block (also in the trunk). In my car, at least (2006 XKR) air goes to both front struts at the same time while the rears are controlled separately. I suggest you check each front strut for air leaks around the top.
Mine failed the same way. I poured soapy water around the air filler connection on the top of the struts. The culprit was the air bag. Bubbles just erupted!

This is a "Snapshot" from the 2004MY Electrical Guide, Fig 05.3. Click on the attached PDF attachment in this and my other post for the relay location.

[QUOTE=datekho;51721]Here's an errorthat just happened to me (2004 XJ8)...
Familiar story.
I found that letting the car warm up and waiting for the compressor to cut out seemed to help. I put up with it for a year or so then bit the bullet and put in a new compressor.
Try the relay 4 first its cheaper.
good luck

Here's an errorthat just happened to me (2004 XJ8)...
Put key in ignition and started the car. After everything settles down, a message in the Message Center says "Air suspension fault". Naturally, I start to become anxious, but drive home anyway since it's Friday night and my dealer is closed so there isn't much I can do.
On the drive home, "Air suspension fault" remains on the Message Center. The ride feels a bit more rough (but don't know if it was just all in my head).
Get home and park in garage. Then I just leave it alone for about 3 hours.
After 3 hours, I decide to start the car again for no reason at all (just to see if the message is still there). But the message has cleared! Seems that everything is fine. Take it for a short drive around the block and everything seems normal. Get back home and park it in the garage again.
So what do I do?
Is it possible that the problem has "healed itself"? Or maybe the error was just a random event?
If I go and have the dealer check it out, would the tech believe my story? (Is there a history of error messages "saved" somewhere in memory so that a tech would know the error really did display?) Should I even bother to have it looked at? Or just keep driving it until it happens again? (Is it safe to drive with the "air suspension fault" message appearing?)

You need to rive the car around for a few minutes, park it and let it sit overnight. When you park it, leave the battery disconnected so the air suspension module doesnt tell the car what to do. Measure the height when parked.....then check again in the morning. If one corner is much lower than it was the night before, then likely you have a leaking shock.
You light may be from a leaky shock. It is a hard thing to diagnose without scanning it.

Does the suspension low the car when parked for a long period of time ? And it does not have any message in the screen

What relay# are we talking about here ? The one for the suspension ? Is that relay # 4? Just to make sure because there are people in this forum stating tha R-1 is for the suspension and they have posted diagrams and all. I am just so confuse
#273
4 shocks failling wud be pretty much impossible .. another example of you should of taken it to a dealer. for actual diagnosing ..would of been cheaper on your wallet.. shocks.. sometimes go but not all at once.. may need a compressor .. start car and put your ear to the left front bumper and if it takes more then 2-3 minutes of on time then it's worn out.. but if the light stays on then may be a relay problem or a fusebox problem

New to the forum; new to owning a Jag. Just bought a 2008 XJ that was previously owned and driven in Florida.
Made the drive home from Florida to Michigan with no problems whatsoever. (Thoroughly enjoyed the experience!) After having the car overnight in Michigan, noticed the driver side rear suspension sitting low.
Turn the ignition and the compressor fills the suspension and ride height returns to what appears to be normal. However, once the car is turned off, the rear again settles.
Over the past two days the problem appears to be getting more pronounced, and now seems to be affecting both rear shocks/corners. (Again, only after turning the car off).
Have scoured much of this thread and have found much very valuable information, giving me confidence that the problem can be relatively easily addressed.
Peaked under the car to find that both rear shocks are Arnott (seems this has been a problem before with this car?)
Took the vehicle to my local Ford dealership hoping they could give me the codes as to the problem (sensor? Leak in the air line? Bad shock?) They could not get the codes for me.
I'm reluctant to take the car to a Jag dealership, both from an inconvenience and possible cost fear.
What should my next steps be? Do you just start by replacing the relay? (If so, where do you purchase?) If that doesn't work, do you move on to the shock itself?
Any help is appreciated!
-Two thoughts to add:
1) It's colder in Michigan and temperature seems to affect this issue-remember the car used to live in Florida. (currently about 50*f here in Michigan)
2) I did hit a couple of rather large potholes on the last leg of my trip from Florida. Could that have created a leak?

This is a snap-shot of all the relays in the front Fuse Box, the colorized relays are replaceable and the dashed-lined relays are on the board. Note that the R4 Relay is for the wipers, and the R1 is for the Suspension. The diagram in the manuals has to be oriented to your vehicle or they may be confused.
Added Relay numbers on the second attachment.....(The R3 in the center was supposed to be erased)

Oh well, all good things must come to an end....I got the dreaded "CATS Fault Code" A local shop was happy to read the codes - 10 different codes. I am assuming that the Module is bad? One good thing.....all the suspension noises are gone! I took it to my shop at work and checked the wiring and the shocks, couldn't get to the module. I read somewhere that the module could be accessed though the trunk, would like to know how. While I had the front tires off, I was looking at the height sensors and wondered about bending the mounting bracket to fool the system into lowering itself. It worked!!!

Help!!!. I own a 2006 xj sovereign diesel and i think the ride is awful, its very hard. My garage admitts its hard although no fault codes were found. One thing I did notice is if I have the engine running and press down on front of car the suspension feels fine, however after three to four presses the whole suspension locks up. Is this normal?????.
