Air suspension, most common failure?
#21
Many thanks, in all honesty it was the only reason I didn't buy one way back in 09 (and obviously have regretted it), and knowing that there is an option to just 'fix it and forget it' when/if the issue arises puts the fire back in me.
It may be tough to convince wifey, as I've spoken to the reliablity aspects of the S-type, but we shall see come tomorrow when we begin the physical search. I'll be back beaming if things go my way

From what I've been told by my mechanic, air suspension problems are not specific to the XJ but also occur in all the other high-end cars (benz etc...) with such air suspension.... so basically, you'd have to decide if air suspension is worth the trouble. Now that we know that there are at least two companies that do replacement non-air shocks/springs for the XJ, maybe that's another point to consider....

The short life of the air compressor lead to many complaints because Jaguar were selling them for over £600 ! Now this price is halved, it is a lot more bearable when it fails. Actually it just slowly dies thus generating the fault code C2303, at which point many owners just replace with a service exchange item. It's a bit like buying a couple of tyres, basically.

It makes painful reading for me as I have just replaced the air compressor, cushions and upper arms for the princely sum of 25,000 dhs ($7,000 or £5,500) in Dubai where there is only one jaguar useless dealer who can charge whatever they want.At least the air compressor lasted 110,000kms which is no too bad compared to the 30,000 miles the average one seems to last....
