Default Air Suspension problem 2004 XJ8

Standing in the car park next to my 2004 XJ8 there is a sudden loud whistling and I lost nearly all the air out of the suspension. Managed to get home. The pump works on the bench. But there is no current coming to it down the large red and black wires. No current shown on the other electric terminal either. Traced the red wire to the fuse box in engine compartment. $40 amp fuse okay
and the pump will work from there putting current to the fuse, but it will kick out after a few seconds. Does anyone know where the live feed to the fuse box for the pump feeds from. Changed the relays around in the box with no joy.

Sounds like you need the Electrical guide.

You can download it here: JagDocs, The Source for Jaguar Documentation!

Pump is only activated when needed, i.e. to recharge the reservoir, that's why you haven't picked up a supply voltage. Try again with the engine running just after starting. It will only run for three minutes max.

If you've lost all the air, it sounds like an air spring has let go front or back.

I've downloaded the electical booklet and see that the pump relay is activated from the air suspensiuon module. With the engine running and the car down it does not send the signal to the relay to activate the pump. Activating the relay starts the pump and it fills the resevoir but the suspensioin still stays empty. My XJ8 is a Florida car and has covered only 55000 miles. Everything looks new, but I guess it's time to go over to normal springs. If one air spring has failed then other could follow. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Might be cheapest to fit an Arnott rebuilt air spring. This cures the holed spring diaphragm, but doesn't touch the shock part. If the shock is not leaking it's normally perfectly OK. They are service-exchange in the US. The original manufacturer was Bilstein.

Hi Fraser, My problem is undoubtably a rear air spring. Yes, If I take them off I could possibly ascertain which one is faulty, but there are still three others coming up to ten years old and I feel I will always be wondering when the next one will fail. I am going to go down the road of replacing the system with the normal coil springs and have peace of mind. Every blog I have read from owners who have done the conversion say that they don't really notice the difference and that peace of mind compensates for losing the levelling system. I'm sure others have done the same and would love to hear teir comments.

Default XJ8 rear passenger seat back.

I have fitted a Strutmaster coil spring conversion kit to my XJ8 and as I had read it is difficult to tell the difference and I now have peace of mind. It has taken me longer than the job itself to fit back the rear seat back, which I had to pull forward in order to disconnect the air control module. Unfortunately I pulled it out of the four plastic clips that it fits down into. I just cannot relocate the seat back into them. Can anyone tell me if I need to take out the seat squab and how it is released as I have given up on trying to locate the seat back at the moment? Not sure if I thanked everyone's response so thanks in advance.
