I recently had a car come to my shop with the code C2302. There are a number of possibilities for this code, the pump being a very popular one, but a leak could also be the issue. In this case we did find a leak in an odd place and I wanted to share it with the forums in case anybody encounters this issue as well.

The leak was on a couple of lines that go along a harness in the trunk. The leak was caused by a mechanic replacing the battery and not properly fitting the breather tubes for it.

Anytime anybody replaces your battery always make sure your breather tubes are properly fitted and routed towards the outside of the car!

 

Not specific to Jaguar, but I have just finished the rebuild of the driver's side strut-tower on a 2000 Dodge Caravan. Passenger's side tower pristine 13+ years-on. Driver's side tower has the battery (no vent tubes atall) just in front of it, area closest to battery nought but iron-scale. Area UNDER or 'inside' of tower still had pristine paint, even though all the other side of it was reduced to iron scale and 'foil' thickness steel. IOW - the corrosion was not from road salts or the like.

Acid and acid-forming nascent hydrogen among the usual suspects. They do not take prisoners.
