Hey Guys, Im looking at an 05 XJ. I know I want an 06 preferably but im giving this one a shot bc of several factors......

Anyways, the seller claims it has Alpine audio however it does not have the Alpine speaker grilles.

Has anyone seen or have the Alpine upgraded sound system that does not have the Alpine speaker grilles?

Erik, Can you run the VIN#? That will take the guess work out of the equation. I'm fairly sure it should have 12 speakers if it is the "Alpine". FYI, I was wanting the 320w Alpine when I was looking at a new car but the one I eventually bought only had the 140w standard audio system. I am pretty satisfied with it and the sound quality and volume level is acceptable.

hmmm, good question. All jags i've ever seen have had the radio brand plate on the speakers, even the new XFs have the bowers & wilkins plates.

 

Hey Erik,

I am pretty sure the Alpine emblems are there whenever the Premium sound option is on the car. The grills have different part numbers specified for the Premium one as well.

Ultimately the VIN will tell you for sure.

If you have the Alpine system you can see the subwoofer through the back window, without the Alpine system the back shelf will be blank.

The funny thing to me is when ive driven S types both wtih and without Alpine Sound (obviously mine has it being an R), I was very impressed with how close the standard sound system came in terms of volume and clarity. Seems this could be the case with XJs as well if Jeff's answer is any indication.

 

The biggest difference I found between my 04 XJ8 without the Alpine system and my 06 XJR with the Alpine system is the bass, as evidenced by the Subwoofer.

 

The only way is to find the serial number of your unit it will tell you what make it is
