another one on headlights
Hi all after adjusting up my headlights the other night I noticed that my Parker lights and high beam where very yellow compared to the HID lights
I was wondering if any other member's had noticed this and have changed the globes in the light and if so what globes did they use or what type of globe fittings they are
I would like to order them first before I pull the headlights apart
when I did the headlights omn the XJR6 it was pretty easy a few guys on the forum had done them already wondering if any X350 owners have done the same yet

Funny you should ask
I'm doing just that the moment. One of my HID's needs replacing so I have ordered a set of LED park lamps to do at the same time.
I also go a set of brighter (color temp) filament lamps to compare and LED turn lamps.
Oh yeah 4 hid spots to replace the ugly fogs as well
So I will let you know how it turns out
Cheers

That's great news you living in Sydney me in QLD parts should be the same then
I was worried about the led lamps as they might throw fault codes or dash lights
I did see canbus no fault LED,s on Ebay
I was going to fit HID lights to my XJR6 but instead used Phillips night visions and 6000k globes in the fog lights made all the headlights white just makes the car seem a bit more modern was planning to do the same with the X350
I have a spare set of 6000k globes for the fog lights just wasn't sure what type of globes it uses
How did you know your HID was faulty?

I have swapped the front parking lights for SMD LEDs on my X350.
They were cheap ones that I bought on ebay and they came from China without built in resistors.
They work just fine and don't throw any messages up. I guess the front parking lights are not canbus controlled.
I fitted LED front parking lights, instrument lights and rear number plate lights to the Volvo S60 I used to own, all without resistors and all without problems. I also fitted (with inline resistors) LED indicators and tail lights, all of which I bought on ebay and all of which came from China and never had an issue.

Swapped in the LED lights today
The park lights lights were "canbus" type so no errors.
The turn ones were not and do throw up errors.
So as for the tun bulbs you need the canbus type.
As it turned out I also had one HID bulb and a ballast gone.
So Ive ordered a pair of ballasts and new canbus type led's for the turn signals
Park lamps look good now and match the HID lamp (no yellow) although ony one HID is working
Cheers

did you fit plain LEDs to the Parker lights or led can bus types also what type of globes are they
this guy on Ebay2X NEW Valeo Jaguar XJ8 XJR XKR XK8 Xenon Ballasts D1S Bulbs KIT Control Unit | eBay seems reasonable for HID globes and ballasts

I tried LED's for the turn that were not can bus type.
This triggered an error
I could not be bothered adding a resistor to fix it and just ordered new canbus ones
These are the canbus ones I have ordered
For the Park lamp the ones I had were can bus type
I used these for the park lamps $2 each
I also have new ballasts on the way but managed to fix the bad one after I wrote that
As a temporary fix ive just fitted a ballast from jaycar See here
To fit I just cut a piece of perspex to fit where the OEM ballast was and used the 6 original screws
This allowed the headlamp to remain sealed.
I then mounted the the jaycar ballast to the perspex.
I drilled a couple of holes for the cables and sealed the cable hole with silicone.
The failed ballast was the LAD5G type and the 2 I have ordered are the LAD5GL type.
This needs to adapt the 12pin plug to the 4 pin type. You do this by tapping 2 of the wires.
These are the same 2 needed to drive the jaycar ballast. So the temporary mod is fine by me as the wire tap will eventually have the 4 pin plug.
The HID cable also needed to be adapted and as luck had it I had a spare cable for the D1S bulb so I just adapted the ballast plug on that the spare
If you wanted to save a buck the Jaycar ballast is fine and cost $24 Aud you can get the ready made D1S cable on ebay for a few bucks See Here
So all in all you could do this for 30 bucks if needed
The jaycar ballast will come out when the canbus LED's and ballasts arrive. Not because its no good just me being fussy
PS The link for ballasts you sent is for the LAD5G 12 pin type
Changing to the LAD5GL saves you half the price. I paid $300 for the pair shipped rather than the $700 + shipping in the link you sent
If you wanted to also upgrade to brighter lamps you could fit an aftermarket 55w ballast like this and use a 55w D1S bulb like this and the bulb cable here
So 55W upgrade for about $70 Aud each side
Cheers

that's a good bit of info my X350 is the early model so probably has the LAD5G 12 pin type as I noticed my headlights seem to be adjusting themselves when I drove it to Melbourne
My old XJR6 didn't have Can Bus type parker lights in the headlights and I have a spare set of LED,s from that car which are not CanBus type was wondering if I could use them or do I have to go CanBus type
As for my HID,s they both seem to drop out at the same time and when I play with the switch they come back
The original owner had the lights set to automatic which I turned of also he had a headlight delay on as well which I have also turned of so maybe thinking it might be the switch
Either way it one of those dreaded intermittent faults so I will have to wait till it completely dies
Not going to try diagnose it till its dead tried that with my wife's Jeep ended up costing me a grand for the wrong items with the help of the GC forum I did get it fixed eventually but wish I didn't spend the grand on the other items at least they wont need replacing LOL

The ecu hust senses the current. Below a certain level you get a bulb failure
LED bulbs draw much less current and trigger the warning
If you fit a 25W resistor in parallel with the lamp you will then draw enough current to not trigger the warning
All a CANBUS LED is is one that has a resistor fitted
A 25W 8ohlm one will do the trick but you will never get a bulb warning.
BTW you wont get one either with a "Canbus" led due to the internal resistor
