Default Arnott vs OEM

Hello all:

I know this has been discussed fairly extensively in the past (and yes, I did the search), but there seems to be no definitive answer.

My front air shocks leak when colder than about 45 degrees, so I'd like to address this issue before the winter comes.

My priority is ride quality over handling. I've read people say Arnotts ride better, and others say ride has become more firm.

In looking at Arnott's site, it appears that they only offer one type of air shock that are new (AS-2710). But OEM offers "comfort" AND "performance" versions, which have different part numbers.

So it seems like Arnott's is one size fits all type of a solution, and I'm wondering if people who say "ride got better" owns XJRs and people who say "ride got worse" have XJ8 or VDP?

ANY input greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Arnott does offer remanufactured sport and comfort shocks.
I recently purchased a rear sport shock for my 04 xjr.
CarId has a good deal on them now. Check their link below and click on options to select sport or comfort.

Thanks for the link!

I do know that Arnott sells remans. But their own branded shocks (the AS-2710) is not offered comfort vs sport (well...CARiD offers the two versions, but have the same Arnott part number so I'm kind of thinking its the same part).

Personally, I would prefer the remanufactured vs new. The remanufactured ones retain cats functionality the new ones do not.

You have a point there...although my concern with that was that no one knows how long the remanufactured units lasts since we don't have any info about the donor vehicle--and that Arnott basically just replaces the rubber bladder parts?

But I'm definitely with you in not wanting to lose OEM functionality.

that is a concern. Arnott replaces the air bladder and seals, but uses a used shock...so you have no idea how many miles were on the shock.

On the other hand, I read a post here where someone called Arnott and they said they were now using their own shocks for the rebuilds.

Might be worth a call to them to check what they say this time - I'd be interested to know.

Sounds a like it's time to make a call! I'll report back.

I did find this post by Arnottdoug, a rep for Arnott on the forums that might explain the hard/soft suspension. This was in response to if their shocks were hard or soft:

"Actually, they are somewhere in between. The Arnott design fits both Comfort & Sport and will bypass the comfort or sport function on the dash. With the OEM air shocks, the shocks have to be specifically for the comfort or sport model and you’d have to match it up to the suspension package on the vehicle (Comfort or Sport). However The Arnott replacements use Bilstein shocks and fits both models. While Bilstein shocks are known for their sporty feel the ride of the Arnott replacements for the Jag is more of a neutral ride between the two. "
