Default ASL Question

Well I've had my '06 XJ8L for a few weeks now and we're getting along very well!
One issue however is I'm unable to select the ASL function. No matter what I try, the button does not light. I get no message indication of a problem.
I've searched the fuse information in the owners handbook and I don't see a designated fuse for ASL.
I'm aware that the CC must be off. No matter what I've tried I cannot get it to work.
Any thoughts?

its a 2 step process (which is never mentioned anywhere)

- You press the ASL button at the speed you want
- You press the "SET" or "+" button on the cruise control controls.....that will set the speed

let me know if that works

Thanks carzaddict for your response.
Couldn't try your solution until this afternoon. Unfortunately your method didn't work for me either. When trying your method the pilot light in the ASL switch wouldn't light and selecting + only activated CC. The switch has no effect whatsoever.
Beginning to think the switch was unplugged at some point and not reconnected during re-assembly.
I only hope this was not some method of masking some larger issue when the vehicle was sold!
I guess the arduous process of removing the console is in my future!

Cool

This post reminded me of my 1985 Couger that I shipped to Germany, I had to use the "Speed Limit Indicator" to keep from getting ticketed by "Speed Cameras". I actually got caught 3 times but only had to pay for one ticket. It beeped when I reached the set speed limit, I had to manually adjust as it was not automatic.

RRD, did you ever solve this? I just got a 2005 xk8- and got the opposite problem. My ASL light is on and hitting the switch (where the light is located) doesn't turn it off- light stays on and it works as limiter. so I have ASL instead of cruise control.
not my preferred way to drive.

Default ASL Question

Sailorbill,
No, I haven't solved my problem as of yet.
I'm thinking I might perform a technique I've read about on the forum here.
It's called a "Hard Reset" and apparently it's solved many electrical gremlins.

Refer to these detailed instructions if your inclined to try this method yourself.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ect-faq-74146/

Good Luck! Let me know how you do.

I don't know if my radio has a memory code or not, so am nervous about doing that hard reset. I have a 2005 with navigation, and no original books or manuals that came with the car.
Have a 1990 miata that had lost the radio code when I changed batteries. that would have required a trip to the dealer to restore. didn't brother, ended up buying a newer radio but don't want to get into that scenario with the Jag since its a much nicer system.

You'll be fine, no codes needed.

Default Hard Reset for ASL problem

Well, I attempted the hard reset procedure in an effort to solve my inoperable ASL functionality.
No luck! The switch doesn't light and when trying the activation scheme all that happens is the cruise control takes over and the message "Cruise On" appears.
Very discouraged!
Any other thoughts?
