ASL Switch

ASL Switch
My 2005 Sovereign has a switch for ASL but the LED doesn't come on when I press the switch. The spec sheet from when the car was built doesn't state that it has ASL but it seems unlike Jaguar to put a switch there just to fill a hole??
TBH the person sitting to my left on most journeys is a better speed limiter than any electronic device so I'm not that bothered but it would be nice to know one way or another.
Any ideas / advice most welcome.

I read at the x350-workshop-manual page 4654/6384 that when press/activate this ASL button, "The automatic speed limiter switch is illuminated when switched on."
You can simply disassemble the dash-hazard-heated seats-ASL-lock switch panel and make a surgical operation analyse the issue, (maybe the LED is simply
has been burned), or searching the web for a complete replacement panel.

Wish you luck.

I tested ASL (Automatic Speed Limiter) the other day, just because the button was there and it worked.
It has to be the most useless invention since Benz patented the automobile. (oops, not saying the automobile was useless)
I often use cruise control even around town to set a speed limit, which of course can be overridden or can inadvertently override downhill.
But to have your engine effectively "conk out" at xx speed, could in some circumstances be plain dangerous. Or so it seemed to me.
I imagine it was invented to satisfy some EU bureaucratic pointy-head who couldn't find another job.
P.S. I like the Jag cruise control. It is always available and doesn't have to be "switched on" like some of my other cars.
