Default Audio Troubles

Well guys, my radio has decided to give me the silent treatment. Earlier this week while driving during lunch the radio went silent. I restarted the car audio came back on no problem. The next day forward the radio has been silent regardless of station AM or FM. I also noticed that the CD changer is no longer accessible. So I was thinking maybe the amp blew or the CDC broke.

So I took a look in the trunk and noticed a sort melted plasticky smell, figured maybe the amp blew. Went ahead and checked the CDC and noticed the magazine was stuck as others have described with similar silent issues. So I decided to start at the CDC.

I pulled the CDC took it apart cleaned up the internal moving parts a bit and magazine now is jam free. Plugged it back in still no audio. So I decided to remove components to isolate the culprit. I checked out a D2B link splicing instruction from the UK forum.

I decided to first remove the CDC ring and CDC. Plug harness back still no audio. Went ahead and also removed the amp ring and amplifier. Plugged harness back in, still no audio.

So I'm stuck like chuck. Do I need to have a working amplifier to have audio? Or am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention it's an 04 XJR Premium Audio, Nav CDC and amplifier.

I think I found the culprit and source of the melted plasticky smell. See pics of the amp below. Is there an easy way to convert to standard audio without the amp? Don't know how long I can last without the radio.

Thanks in advance!

Converting to standard audio, means re-routing the speaker cables to the front unit, which is PITA.

Cheaper to get a used amp off eBay:
Jaguar s Type 2 7 04 Radio Stereo Audio Amp Amplifier 2R83 18C808 Ba AC X350 XJ | eBay

Yeah, just checked out the schematics between standard and premium. Oh well. On the flip side I now have an itch to upgrade the system. Maybe a poor boys version of H2Oboy's setup. .
Christmas and Tax season are around the corner!
