Auto Gearbox Concerns

Auto Gearbox Concerns
Hi everyone,
My first post so thanks in advance for your feedback.
My 2003 Xj6 has developed an issue whereby when moving off it will spasmodically hang/jerk between what i think is 2nd and 3rd gear - then eventually it changes down.
On one occasion it held in one of the gears and then the gearbox warning light came on. I switched the engine off and the warning light cleared and the gearbox returned to normal.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated - the car has done 60,000 untroubled miles!

It likely needs a TCM reflash (software update). Also it will help if you replace fluid and filter. I had similar in 2011. There is a fault detector that detects pressures generated whilst changing; if out-of-limits, it flags a fault and puts car into 'Limp Mode'. It was explained to me at my local main agent that normal wear in the gearbox can result in excessive ratio-change pressures giving rough changes and eventually a fault flag.
Why we have to have this excessive complexity only Jaguar and ZF can tell us. Give me a decent Borg-Warner BW66 3-speeder anytime !!

Thanks again for the feedback but just wanted to correct an error on my part ie the issue occurs when the gearbox is moving upwards ie from second to third - rather than downwards ie from third to second.
Would this make any difference to your view on the likely problem?

Other than the dealers there are 2 transmissions specialists that may be able to help, Bristol Transmissions and Mackies Transmissions in Glasgow.
Mackies is THE A rated ZF partner in the UK.
Not sure about Bristol although they can probably help I'm sure, possibly a service, filter / oil change and a re flash will resolve your issues?
Why not call either and see what they say...........free advice perhaps.
Just a thought...
