Default Axxess RGB module or Navtools

I have been looking for a module to add to my new to me 2007 XJR for a backup camera and phone mirroring. I know about Navtool but I also know their reputation. I am leery about using them. I came across this module from Axxess (Metra) that appears to do the same thing. I was wondering if anyone has experience with Axxess.

Here's the link:

I installed Navtool about 3 years ago an wish I had this Axxess product.

More options, more inputs.

I wanted an HDMI port so had to go thru hoops to add one.

The Navtool product support people, back then, were particularly useless.

Where did you install the Navtool?

The Navtool that is offered now has HDMI.
JAGUAR XJ/XJR/XJL 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 NAVIGATION VIDEO INTERFACE with BUILT-IN HD SMARTPHONE MIRRORING via HDMI

So they are comparable. At least they appear to be. I just don't like the bad stories I have heard about Navtool. But when ppl finally get them, it works.

I just can't find any information about Axxess and success stories.

My main objective is to add a backup camera and mirror my phone for Waze and Sirius. I found an ACM just in case I need it. I know there are other ways to add audio via bluetooth but I am not sure about going down that path. I just bought the car on Monday and those two things are my main must haves. I love the car except for the old nav system. I could add a sirius radio with an ashtray mod but that is just not something I want to do. At least not atm. I am taking baby steps

Just finished adding Navtool with HDMI, replacing their non hdmi unit. Works well with four video inputs, I,m just using reverse camera and phone mirroring(HDMI IN). Its true there customer service sucks. But this time around I received my order in ten days. BUT THE WRONG ORDER. Took about a seven weeks to get my RMA order returned. I paid shipping cost on return, they said they would reimburse ,not gonna happen. Communication with them is almost non existing .They sent the same instructions as for the old unit. which won't work. But plenty of help on this forum to get it right. There customer service does answer and set me straight on correct wire for push button switch. I took a chance and lucked out. There is a 10% off code for Navtool also. Can't comment on Axxess but their instructions don't mention screen interface wiring. Sadly I can't recommend Navtool, but it might work out for you if your the patient type.

I installed the Navtool device in the trunk near the left rear light wires as you need access to one of the reversing wires.

A lot of cutting and splicing to get it all wired up.

Have a reversing camera as well as a DVD player input. I added HDMI so that I could get TorquePro info on my head unit.

Thanks for the information about Navtools. That is what is causing my hesitation with going with the Axxess. Navtools works even though it takes some work to get it there and WHEN you actually get it. Axxess comes from Metra which is a reputable company. The price is the same but I need it to work.

How have you resolved the audio when mirroring? I have the ACM coming but I might go with bluetooth.

I'm using Veffremov's Bluetooth module this is a device I will definitely recommend. I use it for the Navtool mirror function. And upgrade your Jag's audio system as well. Very well.

I have read the information on Veffre's BT upgrade and it looks really good. That is something for me to consider further down the road. So far the audio is good with CD's. The FM is a bit sketchy for tuning in stations that I know are strong. Sirius will take care of that problem for me.

What did you upgrade your audio too?

Hey Tazzberry. I was just saying that Veffremov's Bluetooth module ,and a good audio player app, has improved my xj's factory Alpine system.
