Bad rear wheel bearing,
My 2007 xj8 107000 miles has had a noise from the rear for a while, had a jaguar tech look at it and he says the rear left bearing is the problem. took it to local shop, gave them the timkin bearing and c clip, they had it a day . Paid $360 cdn labour, didnt use car till yesterday and the noise is still there, jacked car up and there is noticeable movement top and bottom and side to side, I had a look at the hub nut and it looks like it has been removed, Spoke to shop and they said to leave it with them for a day and they will check it out,,, Cant help but feel this is going to be a p,,,,,g contest, Don't trust them and fear they might cause more damage, am I being over cautious ?
ps, there was a time when i would tackle this but i am too old for it now,
anyho thanks in advance for your comments

Differential side bearing?
Has anyone checked the differential side bearings with the car idling in gear on a lift? Had to replace the diff in my 09 XJ because of the left - driver side - axle shaft bearing in diff. There was a TSB on this and the diffs were replaced on many 04-09 cars, XK, XJ, S type.

bad rear wheel bearing
The guy who checked it out told me about the rear axle problems but he is positive the axle is ok, it is the lest rear bearing, anyhow it is certainly a bit quieter but when making right turns at speed you can hear the noise increase, i am in the process of gathering some parts and will be putting the car into a garage with a good reputation , time will tell if this is turning into a cash cow, hope not, thanks for your input,

OMG! I read more than halfway through the TSB and I'm already 3.2 hours into the process. How can 1 1/2 technicians possibly do this in the allotted time? I also assume that my 15 year old car with 100K miles isn't going to qualify for a replacement under any kind of warranty, implied or otherwise. I remember hauling my 94 XJ6 in to the Louisville dealership for a diff replacement, and the only thing louder than the drone of the failed gears was my scream when they gave me the repair estimate.

LOL my thoughts exactly, hopefully replacing both bearings and other bits and pieces will fix it, it is a good car, Have the chance to take over my sons lease on his one year old Honda accord . nice car but my old Jaguar is much nicer to drive and looks much classier . I have heard other people say owning a Jaguar is addictive, I still look back it when i park it, sad old man that i am, lol

In my case, using the numbers on the diff housing, I was able to find the exact used diff on ebay for less than $200, avoiding the requirement to replace the axles and driveshaft. A friend and I checked the bearings for noise and it seemed OK. Another friend and I put it in over a 3 day weekend. Fingers crossed, she's been quiet as a mouse.

I used to have BMW 3 series E46. I can swear then it was sweetest car I ever drove. Leased modern version of it, I think F20, when E46 got totaled; could not wait for lease to end. Never looked back at BMW...
