Hi Pancho,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!
I have moved your post from the forum for the XJ40 to the forum for the X350, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2004 XJ8. Here you will find other members who are knowledgeable about your car.
My first question would be had you recently purchased fuel? The symptoms you describe can be caused by fuel contaminated with water. When the fuel is pumped into the tank, the water gets intermixed with the gasoline, but over time the water settles to the bottom of the fuel tank where it is sucked into the fuel pipes by the fuel pump.
Are you sure you had your scan tool connector fully seated on the data link connector? The position of the DLC can make it difficult to fully seat the scan tool cable.
Cheers,
Don

Once you are able to read the DTCs, post all of them here exactly as they appear and we'll try to help.

I highly recommend that you use only the original equipment spark plugs. If you have the 3.0L V6, then a Motorcraft/Autolite plug is correct, but you probably have the 4.2L V8, so the correct plug is NGK Laser Iridium IFR510 / 7866, available from Rock Auto for $8.27 each plus tax and shipping. These plugs have the correct resistance, temperature range, spark energy and life expectancy upon which the Jaguar engineers based the engine design and performance. Using any other plug may compromise your engine's performance.
Cheers,
Don
