Default Best Jaguar Mechanic in Houston

Hello Everyone:
On my continuous saga with rebuilding my wife's 2005 Vanden Plas. I still have a front left rattle in the car when going over bumps. I have taken it to Motorcars Ltd, and Champions Jaguar but still can not find the problem. I have changed every part on the front end, including the shocks and the rack and pinion steering and all of the control arms. I thought maybe it was the shock on the left front. So we switched the front shocks around. Still noise in the left front when going over bumps. So it is in the front left suspension.
Is there any mechanic that you would recommend that is good with suspension work on older Jags other than Motorcars Ltd or Champion Jaguar?

There are two options left:
- compressor mounting; hangs on springs and rubber bands; it is located behind the left front wheel arch
- brake caliper; it may bump against the anchor if the guide rubbers are very worn; if the knocking noise disappears when you press the brake, you have your answer

These rattles can drive you crazy... I bought myself a set of chassis ears from Amazon to find rattles in my cars. I used it a few months ago to find the rattle coming from the front of my XJ8. It was a bad upper control arm ball joint. You already did this, but a good shop should have them to help to locate your rattle.

OK, I want to go to a mechanic and have them use these chassis ears. I have called all over Houston. No one that I can find uses the chassis ears. Every time I call, they want 180.00 just to look at the suspension. I need to know what to look for in mechanic shops? Chassis? Suspension? Jaguar shop? Some one should know what or where I need to go. Jaguar shops are rather scarce around here. Any help would be appreciated. Or do I just buy one of the chassis ears and hope I can do it myself.

Thanks

Unscrew the left front wheel arch and shake the compressor, if You hear a rattling sound, that's it. You don't need a mechanic for this.

Since I have already converted over to a non air suspension system(shocks and springs), I am assuming I could just remove the compressor and tape up the electrical connections. I hope this is it. It seems logical that this is making the noise.
Thanks PeterX358. Will let you know if this works. I am going to remove the air tank in the trunk since it is of no use too.

Default Please let me know if you have any issues after removing

please post back here and let me/us know if you have any issues after removing the air compressor and the air tank in the trunk. I’ve already done the coil over switch, but left compressor and air tank in place, but would like to remove if confirmation that doing so won’t cause any other problems/codes. Thank you.

Ok I can post now I have gotten my car back. I removed the air compressor. It must have be rattling somewhat. I still have a faint noise on the left front. My next step is to buy some chassis ears or just turn up the radio. I will let you know how this goes.

Default Success?

Hope you got it sorted. If still rattling a little, look for bits left behind after pulling the compressor. The electrical and air lines should be there. Tie wrap, duct tape, or anything else may get it quiet.
I thought you had two x350’s?

for some reason I thought you drove a x350, x356, or X358. But only two Jaaguares is the main issue. I thought everyone on this site knew they need three Jaaguares.

JDog,

I was just in Houston 4 weeks ago to look at an XKR Portfolio for sale. Didn't work out, but on my way out of town I met a guy who complimented my 04 XJR and said he works on Jags. Told me he'd be glad to do a PPI if I ever needed one down there. Don't know a thing about him, just a nice guy.
Try him: Branden Malmstrom, JRE Customs, 409.392.6523 cell, 281.837.5792 in Baytown. Tell him the Green XJR sent you.
