Default Blue tooth hook up

Any ideas on how to activate this( or simply get hands free in any other way) without going to the dealer and paying through the nose.

Thumbs up Hands free non-OEM option

I am using a Jabra Cruiser Bluetooth speakerphone. Jabra CRUISER Speakerphone
This has worked well using a BB and a Droid. Clips to a visor and also works thorugh FM station. Only issue is that you need to turn it on and off upon entering and leaving vehicle.
Cost about $60. Worth a look.

Do you already have it installed in the car? IF not, there are a lot of parts required and it is not cheap. There are a few threads here that discuss it in great length.

IF you do already have it and it is not activated, you will need the dealer to add it to the system.

Otherwise your best bet is an aftermarket clip-on variety.

Default A few questions

How would you or would one know if its pre-installed? And yes if so, how would one activate it. Also, what year is your XJ model? Mine is a 2004 XJR and although my navigation system shows a phone button, when I hit it it stated I do not have that option. HELP!

IF you really have it, then have the program it in should cost very little and well worth it

I believe bluetooth, as you are describing it, was not available on 2004 models. It became available beginning 2005. The vehicle you described has the ability to have a phone installed. You have all the basic requirements but the phone itself. I, too, was in a similar situation with my 2004 VDP. When I asked my dealer about this, it was about $2000 for him to install the phone and activate. Your call, but this was too "salty" for me. I went the Jabra Cruiser route and am quite happy.

When I say I have it there are all the buttons and mics(why would the factory not have it pre-wired?), I was assuming it was just a question of getting it activated, I did ask the dealer about this a while ago and they wanted silly money so I did not pursue it.

How much did the dealer quote? They would know if you have all of the modules or not. Having the buttons does not mean anything. What happens when you press the phone button?

Also if you have a touch screen, you can go into the sub menus and it will tell you what is fitted and not fitted.

Do you have Jaguar Voice? That uses a microphone too.

I check on the cost today for my 2004 XJ8: your not going to like this:
PSE Module 2000.00
Bluetooth module 955.00
Clips X 2 = 3.48 each
Screw X 2 = 5.64 each
Screw X 2 = 8.16 each
Handbook 25.00
cable 1 each 125.00
that's just all the parts that not install he said install around 800.00
I going with the clip on like i did in my other car.
