Bonnet / Hood Won't Close Fix
Hi all,
Recently had to top up my coolant. When I tried to shut the bonnet/hood is just bounced back up. Tried to shut it from a bit higher and same thing. Tired to slam it harder and same problem. Eventually got it to catch but when it was closed there was a large gap between it and the grill. And then on the way home on the motorway the bonnet sprung open. Luckily the release catch stopped it from completely opening.
The cause is just dried up springs and mechanism in the catches.
I thought the catches may have to be replaced but just a good old greasing and lubricating instantly solved the problem. I love a cheap and quick fix like this.
So if anyone else has this problem then just take the plastic cowl off the front of the engine bay and add grease or something similar all over the springs and other areas of the catch mechanism in both catches. Move/engage/disengage the mechanism with a screwdriver or something similar in order to work in the grease and then open and shut the bonnet a few times. Try not to get grease on the hooks so that they get the best grip on the bonnet/hood when it's closed.
Thanks,
Chris
Apply grease to the highlighted areas all around the springs even underneath.
