boot lights switch

The lights are activated by the microswitch in the boot lock, if that's done via the REM is not clear to me.
If you've got the boot open, and lock it (slide the lever over with a screwdriver) the light will go out since the car thinks the boot is closed.
If that switch is sticking somehow, then the boot would still physically open, but the REM sees it as closed = no light?
