Default Boot lock and door locks.

I am unable to lock my 2000 xj8 vandenplas. When I put the car in gear all the doors lock and unlock when I open the doors after I shut it off. However I cannot lock the doors with the key as it will unlock the doors themselves after I remove the key. The key fob does not unlock the doors or lock them. The key fob will not lock or unlock the boot. It will pop it open but not lock. The boot lock will also unlock itself after I remove the key. I have put two sets of batteries in the fob. Any ideas?

Your problem with the locks sounds similar to this one:

X350 central locking fault

Check the little door on the ignition lock

It's better,,, sort of. I checked my door lock buttons and the right rear button stayed up. When it warms I up outside I will pull the panel off the door and lubricate all the workings. For now I have pushed the button down and I can lock and unlock the doors ( right rear stays locked) if I press the fob buttons real hard with my fingernail tip. Where do I get a new fob other than from Jag. and how much to buy one and have it programmed? Is there an after market place to buy a spare key?

PS. is there a way to lock the boot with the key? It does not stay locked after I remove the key.

OK you are making progress.

I have had a rear door lock stop working but it did not produce the symptoms that you have.

It is likely that the microswitch in the actuator has failed.

The locks are stamped 'Ford' and I replaced mine with an used 2005 Ford mondeo lock which cost 10GBP!

I suggest you dismantle your key fob and clean the button contacts or replace the fob only (they are available on E bay). New keys and programming can be expensive.

There is a manual lock on the boot under the chrome finisher.
