pain in the butt
hi,where in the mechanism are the micro switches, i have had the lock mechanism out and it looks to be a well sealed unit, the motor part is well intergrated into the mechanicai lock, however if i can be sure the problem is there i will give it a try, thank you for your response regards elwyn

I have not had a problem with my boot lock so I can't describe it to you,but I have had a problem with a door lock.
The door lock problem was caused by the microswitch not making contact properly.I removed the lock and actuator (they are both contained in one unit).
After manually switching the microswitch a few times the lock was working for a while but stopped again.
After much searching I was unable to find a replacement microswitch
I then replaced the unit with one from e bay. No problems since.
I know that there are microswitches in the boot lock and I would guess that they are the source of your problem.
I would recommend that first you ensure that there are no broken wires in the
flexible rubber boot where they enter the boot lid since this does also happen.
If there are no problems there the cheapest solution may be to replace the lock/actuator with an used one. I hope this helps and I hope that I am right!

Do not know the cause but I am attaching a oneline for your car http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto.../jagxj2004.pdf Look at figure 12.1 you will see that the rear electronic module controls the operation of your trunk from the trunk release button to the trunk latch. It does sound like the Valet button might be malfunctioning because the master key and remote are the only way to open the trunk in Valet mode. The only other thing would be that your remote has a problem and is not responding to the request to open the trunk or as suggested the latch is malfunctioning. I hope the oneline helps!

AFAIK its part of the chrome finisher on the trunk lid, so you need to take off the lid cover, then you can take off the finisher and remove the switch. Imay be wrong, though, but you definitely need to take off the lid cover.
