Default Boot (trunk) lid

I was wondering, the boot can be opened from inside the car or by using the button on the remote, or by pressing the button on the lid itself.

Can anyone tell me if it's suppose to spring open all the way?. Mine just "pops" and sits barely open, which to my mind is absolutely pointless, I would be as well to just use the button on the lid and lift it myself, because once I have "popped" it and have like 6 bags of groceries in both hands, I pretty much have to put them down or do a dead lift to get the lid to open enough for me to drop the bags in. I thought the idea was you could hit the remote release on the fob and the lid would spring open so you could just dump the bags in and then close it.

The lid only lifts about an inch.

It will seem even more pointless when the actuator fails, which they are prone to do.
