Boot/Trunk Stuck - Can't Fully Open, Can't Fully Close
Hi,
I have a 2004 XJ8 and recently the boot has become stuck. The car was unlocked and I was leaning on the boot when I accidentally pressed the release button on the boot.
Instead of opening fully, the boot released the motorised lock but has stayed latched, so it opens about 0.5 cm.
When I push it closed, the motorised lock does not operate and when I try the boot button, key fob or in-car button the boot does not release. Also, using the key on the boot lock above the plate does not work either.
So, I'm stuck [&:] and the car thinks the boot is already open and refuses to centrally lock using the fob (I need to manually lock using the key).
Any solutions to this? I don't think it is an electrical failure apart from the car being confused as to the state of the boot.
Thanks,
Rob

Might try the full reboot. Disconnect the pos battery cable and let it sit for a few minutes. Touch the pos cable to the neg cable a second before reconnecting to pos cable to the battery. You will reset everything in the car and will have to reprogram them, but may also reset the confused trunk module.

RE: Boot/Trunk Stuck - Can't Fully Open, Can't Fully Close
Update:
The boot lock seemed to reset itself after about 12 hours as the next morning it opened OK using the button on the boot.
However, being partially open the battery was discharged and I was no longer able to start the engine. So, I gave it a boost from a main charger and all seems OK.
I think the battery discharge was due to the boot being partially open, but I have a nagging suspicion it was due to the CD changer in the boot as I put a new CD in just after I managed to open the boot. Just a suspicion but it seemed to wirr for a while after the new CD was added to the cassette.
Another irony was that the boot was stuck again last night but this time was due a drop in temperature after rain. The boot seal was frozen to the body and once again I could only partially open it. This time some warm water did the trick.

Boot/Trunk Stuck - Can't Fully Open, Can't Fully Close
freebeeme,
This is my first Jag and I have only had it a few months. I couldn't find the key hole for the trunk. I found it earlier this morning and was able to open it using the key then shut it normaly. All seems ok now. I think I am having CAT system issues because when I started it up prior to resolving the boot problem, it threw out all kinds of system error messages and the power steering was not working. It was hard to turn the steering wheel. Anyway, I think all is ok for now. I have alot to learn about my jaggie
Thanks,
Lena
