When I first got my xj8 I had the shop remove all the wheels because I assumed I had low pads or something. Anyway everything checked out and the pads and discs are fine, almost new looking. My question is do any of the off the shelf sprays for eliminating brake noise actually work and are they safe?

Try braking them in again. Go to 40 and smooth stop. Repeat about three times letting brakes cool in between stops. Then go to 50 and do same, let cool overnight. Get rougher next day. Find a less travelled road for this procedure and be smart. Check EBC Brakes web for more distinct instructions. Most noise stops after this. Otherwise pull pad and put disc brake quiet on backs and reinstall,
