Default Bypassing a broken CDC in a 2007 XJR to restore speaker sound

Hi all,

I accidentally shorted out my CD changer in my 2007 XJR when I was trying to get the CD cassette out with a screwdriver. Devastating mistake as now there is no sound at all even with the radio or CD player up front. The "Rear CD" and "Power Amp" fuses have been checked and are good. There is no power on the CDC, as in the green eject button light is off. I got in the trunk and tried to remove the CDC but couldn't get it unplugged from the connection to take it out. I can see from scouring this forum that the premium audio system for this model runs via a fiber optic loop and if one component in that loop fails, the whole sound system fails.

If I want to restore sound is bypassing the CDC the right move? I have read about others doing that but they offered no how-tos on getting it done. Can someone offer some advice? Also if someone can tell me how to remove the CDC that would be helpful too. I removed the larger connection but the smaller one won't release and I can't get enough slack to look at it closely, I am afraid the wires are soldered to the unit. Any insight there would be helpful too.

Thanks, P
