Default A/C Blend Door Actuators - where to source parts

Hey All -
With my suspension problems solved it's on to the blend door motors. The parts I'm looking for are C2C7084 and C2C7086. My repair shop indicates that these are available only through dealers,

and so far my searching has shown this may be true. I found 7084 on eBay from a dealer a little cheaper than from dealer here in Columbus, but was wondering if others have found them elsewhere.

I found the aux. heater pump on rock auto so good to go there as part of the job to resolve uneven heat/defrost issues.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

I'm very interested in your blend door motor project. My car has had a new heater core and aux pump and the floor and faces vents work well. My problem is that there is no heat at all to the defrost outlets. It blows ice cold.

What problems are you having and how are you diagnosing the cause. As far as I know, the entire dash has to come out to service the blend door motors. Do you know a trick?

Regards
Jeff

Hi Jeff -

I apologize that I can't be of much help in this matter as far as practical advice goes because I don't do my own work.

The shop I use are great car guys and while they are not Jag experts they know enough to service the car 99% .

My symptoms started as hot air only on passenger side, cool air to drivers face and footwell. Then also started this summer no defrost (needed when raining) to prevent fog-up. Defrost now however seems to work better but does the job only on high.

Finally I have cool air from the A/C only for a few minutes, then nothing.

I don't know how they diagnosed. I had brought the car to them last fall regarding the heat vent issue, but waited till this spring to address it. They did give me slightly different part numbers this time - C2C7084 and 86.

I'm going to order the parts today and get the work done next week. I'll let you know the outcome and will query the shop as to tricks.

Mike,

Hot air only on the passenger side is the typical symptom of a clogged heater core. That's exactly what mine was doing. I sawed the top off the old core after the repair and it was completely clogged on the driver's side and still clear on the passenger side.

The actuators are on the outside of the climate 'box' and you should be able to see some of them from under the dash.

All -
Thanks to all who replied to this post re actuators. The update is as follows.
1. The Aux. water pump on SC cars and nat. asp. cars is different. the SC part number is C2C6517. Multiple choices on Rock Auto for around $100. I have the incorrect one. PM me if anyone w a nat. asp car wants it. $50.

2. The repair as performed did not work to restore proper heat to the driver side. Airflow is strong to all areas, but drivers side heat is very lukewarm at best. Prior to repair A/C was not cooling for more than 5 minutes. During these recent past warm days it performed as normal. Hope that will continue.

3. Am I moving on to a heater core replacement or is there another fix?

Thanks in advance.

Also - my shop says that the actuators on SC cars are much harder to get to than nat. asp. cars. Not sure if this is true given the comments left by merion1 above. My shop did say they did not have to take out the dash but charged for 6 hours labor for the repair - taking out one of the seats and center console

Comments?

Get a new heater core if you are replacing it. I used a second hand one and it is much better now, the old one was really clogged up. I was lucky but you may get one as bad as the oe you have. The problem I have now is the face vents are a little cooler on the drivers side but the feet vents are toasty warm on both sides. I think I may have a blend flap problem as well.

Joe,

I have the same problem on my car. Replaced the heater core and got nice heat on my feet but the dash vents and defroster are dead cold. My next project is to swap out the driver side "Cold Air Bypass Blend Door Actuator and see....

Jeff -

Now I see why you are interested in my actuator repair. So as you know I replaced the c2c7084 left defrost vent actuator and c2c7086 left floor vent actuator. The result was a return to normal airflow but very lukewarm air on the drivers side. The floor air is a bit warmer than the defrost. I happened to stop by my shop today and the tech did say there was one more door to repair, and that it is easier to get to than the others. Obviously it is th cold air bypass you mentioned in your post.

Depending on wether the current status of my repair is adequate to defrost the windscreen in winter, I may or may not repair this last door. I certainly will do it before moving on to the heater core, if necessary.
