Default Can I add Jaguar Voice?

There's a lot of discussion about this but mainly for X-Types. I have an 06 XJR with Bluetooth module installed. Can I install Jaguar Voice myself? If I can what do I need?

Thanks

Do you have a phone in the car? If so, all you need is the voice module and possibly a new D2B harness in the trunk.

I have whatever the car has to provide for Bluetooth service including microphone and touch screen interface. There is no physical phone in the car other than cell which works perfectly through the car.

Will I need any dealer programming?

Thanks

You need a voice module. I've seen them on eBay for less than $300. You may or may not need a new D2B fiber optic harness in the trunk. From what I've been told the modules need to be in a specific order on the ring or it will crash the system. You need to pull the left panel off in the trunk and see. My XJR had Nav and CD changer, but no voice or rear seat DVD. When I installed my phone I had a spare D2B connector terminated with a loop that was marked REAR ICE (In Car Entertainment.) If the car had the rear seat DVD this would have plugged into the other spare D2B cable marked BT INLINE. If you have this cable you don't need a new harness. The order on the D2B ring is:

Head Unit --> CD Changer --> Phone --> Voice --> Rear Media --> Nav --> Amplifier --> Head Unit

So if there is a spare connector for the rear media you can use it for the voice and everything is still in the proper order. If not, you need a new harness. I believe you can also add a connector and FO cable to the existing harness to create a new connection, but I haven't tried that.

You should find the voice electronics plug (not fiber) and it should have a connector, Jaguar calls it a lead link, plugged in to jump the voice for the phone. Remove that and plug the harness into the voice module, hook up a D2b connection, reconnect the battery and it should be plug and play.

Sound like an easy install. I just got "permission" to get the voice module for christmas. Thanks for the in-depth info.

Thanks tommyd.

I'm looking at the hardware stack in the trunk and I can see where the module goes above the phone module. My car is already equipped with Bluetooth and CD and the mic's already in. I have what looks like a spare fiber optic connector taped to the bundle with a plug (shorting?) in it and I have a large connector sitting unconnected next to the stack. This connector has a few wires plugged in that appear to be jumpers.

Am I correct in thinking that I can simply remove the jumpers in the spare d2b connector and the large connector and plug in the module?

It sounds like all you need is the unit, I was not so lucky I had buy a new D2B cable to install my phone/bluetooth. It was over three hundred from the dealer. Now I wish i would had went ahead and got one for voice so i could have install it at a later date

Good luck

Please refer to the attached JV Documents which includes the D2B Link Lead fitting matrix.

I checked the link lead matrix but I'm still confused. I do have an extra link lead on the d2b harness but it has a tag that says ICE. Can it be used in anyway to hook up voice or will I be needing another harness?

Thanks

Success! But... I'm disappointed to discover there are no phone commands. I have the phone module and bluetooth works fine. When I asked for voice help it did not mention any for phone. Is this true?

gonna take a stab here...the voice module may not be compatible with the older, existing bluetooth module. I have no idea if it can be 'upgraded' with firmware either. You could swap with someone who has a newer BT module, and check to see if that is the case. You're in PA, i'm sure you can find someone local, especially if their BT is just behind those vents and easy to get to and unplug.

Yup something is amiss. JV provides for phone commands. Is your Bluetooth Phone connection working after the JV install?

First try this:

Jaguar D2b ring diagnostic check
Press AM/FM + eject
When the screen changes to the setup screen press
eject + mix to cycle through the SW versions.
I'd expect you should see:
MAIN
CDC
PHON
VOIC - if you have voice rec
NAVI
If it doesn't cycle through these then it shows the D2B ring is broken

__________________________________________________ ______________
Next check to see that optional extras are all turned on.

Jaguar Diagnostics using Nav System Display
To get to the PIN entry menu hold in Phone and Menu for five seconds.
The code you want is 1971 - that will give you a MISC button that lets you turn on or off the optional extras like CDC, MD, phone, voice, etc.

__________________________________________________ ______________
ALSO make sure the following procedures are followed:

Jaguar XJ8 Battery Disconnect Instructions

1) Insure that no key is in the ignition.
2) Insure the security system is disarmed by unlocking the doors.
3) Remove luggage compartment floor panel.
4) Disconnect negative (-) lead (Ground Terminal) first.
5) Slacken the negative lead pinch bolt and disconnect the negative (-) battery lead.
6) Slacken the positive lead pinch bolt and disconnect the positive (+) battery lead.

Jaguar XJ8 Battery Reconnection Instructions

1) Insure that no key is in the ignition.
2) Do not over tighten the pinch bolts.
3) Slacken the negative lead pinch bolt and disconnect the negative (-) battery lead.
4) Clean the battery posts and coat the post with petroleum jelly.
5) Ensure the vent tube is connected and free from kink or damage.
6) Connect the positive (+) lead, tighten the pinch bolt and clip the positive terminal cover on the battery.
7) Connect the negative (-) lead and tighten the pinch bolt.

After Reconnecting the Battery

1) After the battery has been reconnected and the ignition switch is turned to position II, the message center display, will initially show an erroneous reading i.e. - - - - - - . This will remain until the bulb check sequence has completed, when the correct recorded mileage will be displayed. This is a normal function of the instrument cluster.

2) Reset the electric parkbrake.
a. The message APPLY PARKBRAKE will be displayed when the ignition is switched on.
b. Depress the footbrake and pull the parkbrake switch up to apply the parkbrake. This is required to reset the parkbrake system which will now function properly.

3) Reset the electrically operated windows anti-trap function.
a. Fully close the window, hold the switch in the close position for 2 seconds and then release the switch. Wait for 2 seconds, do not open the window.
b. Again, select the same window to close, holding the switch for a further 2 seconds.
c. Check to confirm the operation by opening the window and then use the one-touch operation to close the window.
d. Repeat steps a through c for the remaining electrically operated windows.

4) The radio will not operate until the correct security code has been re-entered.
a. Code will appear on the display. Enter the code (4123). When entering the code, if a “beep sound” occurs begin the code entry over, starting with the first digit. This “beep” was provided to indicate the starting point for the code entry.
b. If the code is not properly entered in 3 successive attempts the radio will not accept any entry until the radio has been left on for 1 hour. After 1 hour in the “on” position the radio will accept 3 additional entries.

5) Reset the analog clock on the dashboard to the correct time.

Yes I do have Nav. I'm going to try your ring diag and setup this morning.
I have Nav, CDC, JV (now), Phone.
Bluetooth phone still working OK after JV install. When I ask for voice help I display, climate, radio, nav but no mention of phone. Is this because the JV doesn't see the phone module?

Thanks

It's possible as Matt stated in his post above that there is some incompatibility with the JV module and the BT module. What is the part number for the JV Voice Module you purchased? You might need to bring it in to the dealer to have the most recent updates applied to all installed modules though IDS.
