Can i remove the transmission if the engine is seized?
Long story short my son hydrolocked our 05 VDP last week with the flooding we had in Michigan. I have a good used motor on order and i'm reading the manuals and it asks to remove the trans first. Since i cant turn the engine over how can I get the flywheel off?

Have you tried turning it by hand? Pull the plugs and spray it with some oil. As the motor is trashed you can turn it backwards and fowards. You can also walk the cams. The valves are what you should be hitting - so with this knowledge you can rotate enough to get the torque converter bolts lined up.
Before going ape, I would pull the spark plugs and spray air into the hole (use a rag to control splash). Then see where you are at.
You have to be careful stressing the transmission - as it sits if you pull the transmission the torque converter will stay with the engine (not optimal) - but most likely will not be harmful if one is careful - the seal will need to be changed out (which one would do regardless). This is why one unbolts the torque converter and it remains with the transmission during removal. Engine side is a nub, transmission side is the oil pump which is splined.

I did take the plugs out when i got it towed home and tried to turn it by hand and it didnt budge at all. My son tried to restart it in the water when it shut off and when I took the air filter was completely soaked when i took that apart. Its been siting now for a few days so i might try again.
