Cannot clean throttle body on Supercharged V8's?
I will use the 3M injector cleaner that I posted previously, however, the manual indicates for Supercharged V8's -
CAUTION: Do not attempt to clean the throttle body. The bore and the throttle
plate has a special coating applied during manufacture which should not be removed.
OK, I'll heed the warning, however:
My question is what are the action steps one can take if the throttle body is dirty?

I have an used TB which I cleaned and found a coating of what looks like molyslip on the
edge of the butterfly and the adjacent area on the throat around the butterfly.
I am guessing that they had sticking problems in this area and applied this coating.
I was able to clean the TB without removing this coating.

If you look at the cleaners on the shelf, there are some that state "safe for throttle bodies". I think they use a less harsh solution.
I will also confess that I have used the regular Berryman carb cleaner many times on early Ford cars that got the obnoxious sticky pedal (before the electric throttle bodies), and had no issue afterward. At first I didn't know I was supposed to not use it...and later didn't care since I knew it worked.

well they do advertise that the throttle body cleaner included in the kit is safe for coated throttle plates, so I'll give it a go.

While that black grime might look ugly, on a positive pressure intake system, as is found on our S/C cars, it hurts nothing.
On a system where the intake stroke is actually sucking air through the intake creating vacuum (negative pressure), grime creates drag and can sap some power.
So, just leave it there.
