Default Can't Pop Trunk on 2009 XJ Portfolio

Dead battery has left unable to pop trunk with fob or button on the trunk. Tried connecting charger to front fuse box per a Youtube video and got limited power but not enough to pop trunk. Any other methods without disassembling rear seat?

Your key opens the trunk.

Henry, look under the boot edge by the number plate and next to the number plate lights you will find the key lock.

If only the manufacturers could provide some kind of information about these systems to the people who buy their cars. Something somewhere that documents how everything works. A kind of manual for the car's owner or something...

That would be a great idea, and maybe with a bit of thought they could make it such a size that would fit into the glove box.

It's called an "Owners Handbook"

Just remember it's not written for plebs who say "boot" or "trunk". Our carriages have "Luggage Compartments"!!!
(P28 of my owners handbook downloaded from the stickys)
"Insert a key into the luggage compartment lock (3), however, opening with the key when the vehicle is armed will cause the alarm to sound immediately. Should this occur, press the transmitter unlock button, or place the key in the ignition, to disarm the alarm system" (also has a diagram of where to stick the key)

And they never ever breakdown, they just fail to proceed.

I have that too! A thick handbook in the glovebox.

Unfortunately mine is a Japanese import and so is the handbook. My step-son, bless him, showed me that he could take a PHOTO of a page and and get some sensible translation to English with the things cellphones do nowadays.
Or...the stickys up there.

I admit that, with 350 pages of an owners handbook, how is your chauffeur going to find the time to drive you anywhere?

"Darling Hubby, do you mind collecting my accoutrements from the Luggage Compartment?"
"It's stuck"
"Oh never mind. I should have called a taxi in the first place"

Mine doesn't do that. When I unlock with the key, the lights flash the same as unlocking the car from the remote, and when the trunk (sorry, luggage compartment!) closes, the lights flash again as the system re-arms.

Perhaps the American system is better.

Again.

Ah well think on the bright side.
When I pop the boot with the car locked, the air suspension pumps up!
Maybe to level the car with all the wife's baggage. I mean luggage, luggage.

And I have to correct myself. If I hit the trunk button on the remote, which only releases to the first catch but doesn't open it, then use the key, it behaves as I described. If I start with the key from fully locked, it does trip the alarm.

Now I have to put my hat in my hand and apologize for my American uppitiness...

When the latch assy. does this which is common it needs to be replaced. I tried to repair but to no avail. Expensive new but often available used on Ebay

Yeah, but for 200 bucks, I can continue to use the key!

The key-opening sticks because it's never used. Not because it wears out.
