Question

Connectors that fit, soldered onto each end of the resistor, then shrink wrapped, might work.

Thank you Wingrider.
There are two wires going from the ASM to each Air Shock connector. Am I simply connecting these two wires together via this resistor?

Please could anyone explain how I physically connect one of these resistors to the connector at my air shocks?

Take the 2 wires coming from the car harness at the shock--each wire should connect to one end of the resistor. So you have wire--resistor--wire. You will have nothing connected to the shock itself after the modification.

Thank you Michael, I kind of thought that would be the case, but thanks for your confirmation!

1/4 W is what I calculate as sufficient; go with 1 W if you want some extra margin.
Here's some suggestions ( 1 kohm, 1 W )

William, I bought as you suggested and I have fitted (temporarily) to check that it works for me and it does! So thank you very much for the advice!!
Please, when I fit on a more permanent basis, will I need to take account of any heat produced?

EsRay;

I apologize for the delay responding. At 1/4 watt I wouldn't expect significant heating. I would suggest you drive the car ( to get the ASM to output the 'soft ride' signal per Mike Hamilton's #34 post) and then quickly after stopping, see how hot the resistor feels to touch. I don't expect it to be noticeably warmer.

I think a key point is to make sure the connections from the loom to the resistor are shrink wrapped (or otherwise electrically isolated) to assure the resistor does not unintentionally short to a grounded surface. Securing the resistor so it cannot flop around is also wise.

Please let me know how this works out for you.

Best Regards, William

UPDATE:

Obviously we would all like to replace our worn Air Shocks with Bilstein and retain CATS. However, for some of us who may (by way of an example) be selling their beloved LHD Jag in the not too distant future before returning to RHD Land, the expense cannot be justified?

So I would like to thank William for his 'Resistor' solution to a persistent CATS Fault (a solution that is still working perfectly for me) whilst I await Don B's creative solution to our Bilstein 'Top-Seal' failures or conclusive evidence that Fraser Mitchell's: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-parts-225784/ will fit directly to our CATS Dampers?

What a quality Forum this is!
