Unless you are having symptoms, I would not change them. If you had 100,000 miles and had chain noise on start up, that would be different. Changing them is not hard if you have the three special tools it takes and a good manual on the procedure. It is about a day job for a shadetree guy, 1/2 day for a pro.

You have the 4.2 engine which ismuch, much better than the 4.0.

You souldn't have an issue with the tensioners on that car with that mileage unless something unusual happened.

Can anyone tell me if the chain special tools, look like and if the 4 litre one's will work on the 4.2 litre motor. I am not going to replace them, but thought it wise to get the tools. I have some that are 300 aussie dollars, is this a good price.
Thanks.

You are putting the cart in front of the horse. Don't worry about it yet. The 4.2 engines are solid. Just wait. Jag will get you to spend your money on something else!

If not, take the wife to dinner. Chicks dig that.

The tools are a chain tensioner, a camshaft setting tool and a crankshaft setting tool. The 4.0 and 4.2 tools are the same.
