Default Changing VDP Spark Plugs

Has anyone changed the spark plugs on their 2004 VDP themselves? I changed mine, and all went well EXCEPT for the left side rear (drivers, US). I actually destroyed the insulation on the engine side of the composite shields for the brake master cylinder trying to get a tool on the plug. I ended up removing the panel which was not obvious until the insulation was unintentionally removed. I used various lengths of extensions and swivels, but seemed impossible at the time. What is the correct procedure? The only thing that comes up on a search is plug type.
Thanks for any insights. The job is done, but curiosity remains.

Thanks

I'd like to know as well, as I am about to do mine soon.

I did mine last year. Wish I had some advice for you, but I had the same struggles with the drivers rear one. Not wanting to damage the insulation, I finally caved and took it in to the dealer to have them install the last one. It's quite the job!

Can you fit the more expensive iridium ones that only need to be changed every 100,000 miles or so? I know this doesn't alleviate the left side rear issue, but would mean once it has been changed you would very likely not have to change it again for 10 years or so?

I did replace with Iridium. I was curious as to the "proper" way to replace the left rear plug without "collateral" damage.

Doesn't anyone have a tip for this troublesome plug? I'm getting ready to do mine on my '04 XJ8 and this problem sounds intimidating.
