Default Charger vs Cigar Lighter Location (rear)

I'm a little confused as to the location of the Phone Charger in the rear of the Center Console. I know one recepticle is for the Cigar lighter and the other a Phone Charger. The problem I'm having is that the LEFT one does not work at all; with either the Phone or Lighter. The Right one is always on when the car is running (so the charger could work there).

Can anyone tell us how your rear console is configured? Is the left side the Cigar Lighter or is it the Phone Charger? Maybe it doesn't even matter at all, frankly, since neither are 'hot' when the car is not running!

It does look like my left side receptical is not operable for either use; so I'll likely have to get into the console to investigate. I use the right side for the Phone Charger but am not sure this is correct.

I've looked at photos of cars on Ebay to see how others are configured but unfortunately there appears to be no consistancy. On some the Right side is the Phone Charger and on others, it is the Left side.

I doubt it matters, but my center rear console has the two recepticles and two rear seat heat buttons only; I do not have the rear A/C controls.

BTW, does anyone have advice as to how to remove the Center Console?

Thanks

Have you to checked fuses before taking the center console apart? Thye might be fused independantly. I will see if I can locate the fuses for them.

Here is the info and there is a difference between the two. It looks like they are wired differently between cigar lighter and power point. All of theses fuses are in the trunk distribution or rear power distribution.

F43 is rear cigar
F44 is front cigar
F26 is rear power point
F25 is front power point

Thanks Drew - I'll take a look at the fuses tonight. BTW, what side of your rear console is the Phone Power Point?

Thanks

I never checked. The easiest way to check is plug in something with a LED and pull fuses until you turn it off. I have never used them in the rear. It's easy to trace when you know that fuse goes for what accessory.

Hi, mine is a UK car and the left hand socket is the power outlet, the right hand one has the cigar lighter in it.

My 04 XJ8 has two power points in the rear of the console. No cigar lighter. I have not seen this in any other car so far.

Drew, you were right! I checked the fuses and sure enough the the rear Accessory Power fuse was blown; replaced it and it seems to work just fine now. BTW, the Power outlet is on the Left and Cigar Lighter is on the Right side.

Interesting, when I pulled out the unit from the Center Console, I noted that both the Power Outlet and the Cigar lighter are the same identical part number; yet the Owners Manual cautions not the use the cigar lighter for plugging in accessory items. Makes no sense to me.

Anyway, thanks for yur direction.

the same as my set up then, you may find that they are the same part but are probably fused at a different rating because the cigarette lighter needs to carry more current possibly

All of them are rated at a 15 amp fuse. I'm glad you found your problem without removing the center console.
