cheaper coilover suspension conversion

So, you're telling me it's possible to get S-Type shocks/struts, just drill a few holes and they'll mount right up, replacing the air suspension?
I could get these: KYB 4 Struts Shocks Jaguar s Type Stype 2000 to 2005 | eBay ?
Just like that?
That would be nothing short of amazing.

I think you'll need the S-Type springs too.

Ah yes, good catch.
So a pair of these
Rear Coil Spring Jaguar s Type 3 0 V6 238BHP Saloon 99 | eBay
and these
Front Coil Spring Jaguar s Type 3 0 V6 238BHP Saloon 99 | eBay
and the top mounts as well, I guess:
Jaguar s Type XF XFR Front Strut Shock Mount Mounts Spring Seat Set 4 XR858419 | eBay
With all the shipping costs, it's not much of a savings from a conversion kit. Still, it should be possible to trim the price if I look around a bit. Getting new stuff as opposed to used seems like a reasonable investment as I expect to have the car for many years, but that does depend on the condition of the used parts one might find...

dont get s type lowering springs for the rear because the stock ones are slightly lower than the airbags sat. my cars *** sits at 6 degrees negative camber. its not a big deal and the car has a better driving characteristics when i push it hard. my front tires sit flat and look like stock ride height so i need to rotate my tires often because too much time on the back makes them loud.

I found reasonably priced S-Type R' OEM suspension. Struts are electronically controlled and I just want to try this crazy idea to put it on my 2003 SV8 and drive for a while until I fix my stock airs. My guess if there is any chance to friendship them with XJ's adaptive control module? I know XJ's system is more complicated as controls also ride height.. but. Who did this before?

Just did the S-type conversion
Aloha all, Just had 2003 S-type struts installed on my 2004 VDP. I found all four on eBay for $288 including shipping, and $400 in labor. At first the ride height looked way to high but after a day it has settled down nicely. And it rides just fine, the best part is knowing I can just jump in the car and go. If anyone is in need I have both rears and a front drivers air struts that were still in good shape.

I HAVE A 2004 JAGUAR XJ8,trying to do the suspension swap with an s type in the same year, there are a few different options for the shocks that you can but for that year i need some specifics,is there anyway I can contact you or you can contact me my email is driveatlanta@gmail.com,my number 770-912-7846

Do you think these would work on an XJR? Or would it be too low?
KW Variant 3 coilover for 2000 08 Jaguar s Type CCX 35231002 | eBay

If that is the actual product, I don't think it will mount without special adapters.

the 6deg camber is extreme enough that my tires have become unbearably loud. I had the tires reverse mounted so i could get more mileage out of them since there was still lots of tread left on the outside shoulder. Ive decided i'm gonna get a hold of some old industrial rock mill conveyor belt material to resolve the issue and pick up my rear end a little. my dad used the same old conveyor belt material when he put a gym in our old back yard. Its super thick rubber and im gonna cut a couple pieces to put at the top of the struts to give me about 1/2 in lift. i'll keep you guys posted when i get this done.
If you guys think i'm crazy...... well remember i'm the guy that machined down a skateboard wheel and turned it into a lower control arm bushing. I'm not ever a redneck either. Just half asian and a master problem solver

I've just get my black arrow back from autosurgery)) As I said before I pursued the idea to swap airs on my sv8 to stypeR spring suspension which I found on japanese auction in winter, as from the day one I bought the car I felt total dissonance of 400hp power and absence of control I decided to do everything at a time. I mean to change struts and all bushings to poly ones from Powerflex. My lowest rears bushing close to knuckles were cabbaged and some ball jointed bushings as well. I changed all bushing and rods at a time. The trick I decided to step into game was CATS capable struts from s-type r. So, connectors from stock airs appeared absolutely the same and we just plugged them in. First impression - WOW. Second - WOW ) The car dropped PERFECTLY (roughly 2cm all corners with proper rack on front) - firstly. Secondly - ASF orange eye not appears until it decides to adjust height and back to stored in memory I believe when I adjust the settings in the ecu this will appear more seldom I know the road height under load is no more controllable by the system, but I guess firm stypeR springs should not dip too much So, tomorrow I will go to alignment and I expect total transformation as what I felt on the road from service to home was just like jump from Jeep to Mini, if you get what I mean. A couple of pictures before, after, during. Stay tuned! Alex

Keep sparring with ACM. Seems have to swap airs back and drop by recalibrating ride height to measured height on springs then back springs back.. ufff.. like rally team on stage and all these efforts are just for the amazing feelings when it rides when ACM is active.. like f1, until it decides to adjust the height to stored in memory..

Great looking car, Sochi. Very nice!
Quite possibly I can beg up the part numbers and sources for the parts you used. Is there a detailed "Bill of Parts" for this type of conversion? One may prove to be instructive
I just replaced the RF air strut on Mrs Boxx's VDP, but I'd like to have my facts in order to prepare for the day when that car is converted to coil...
and my MB CL500 with hydraulic suspension...what a pain that is!

I don't have p/n for coils as only I can say they are green color and have sockets to plug in electronic connectors on top exactly as on airs. They were used and came from S-Type R lived in Japan :-)
For bushings I used:
PFR27-613 POWERFLEX Rear Upper Arm Front Bush - 1 set
PFR27-614 POWERFLEX Rear Upper Arm Rear Bush -1 set
PFR27-611 POWERFLEX Rear Lower Arm Inner Rear Bush - 1 set
PFR27-612 POWERFLEX Rear Lower Arm Outer Bush - 1 set
PFR27-610 POWERFLEX Rear Lower Arm Inner Front Bush - 1 set
PFF27-603BLK POWERFLEX Front Upper Wishbone Bush -1 set
PFF27-604-31.5 POWERFLEX Front Anti Roll Bar Bush 31.5mm - 1 set
PFR27-615-17.5 POWERFLEX Rear Anti Roll Bar Bush 17.5mm - 1 set
Wanted to mention front upper bushings I chose were BLACK series, harder than purple (all the rest). I got disgusting squeaking from them on day two after installation. I had to inspect them and maybe customize to decrease friction surface between arms and eyes in body frame. Or just have to retorque them to 60-65Nm.. I don't know until i get to them. However in rear everything is smooth and silent. I would recommend to choose purple ones PFF27-603 - for front arms as well.
All bushings were ordered from www.powerflexonline.com web-site.
