Default Clicking Sound

Hello,
My 06 Super V8 Port. has developed an intermitent clicking sound coming from the passengers side of he engine bay. It only happes when the car is cold and lasts for 30- 45 seconds. The click is distinctive and seems to happen once a second at idle. Once it stops it won't happen again until the car is started cold and somtimes it woun't happen at all. At first I thought it may be coming from the air suspension compressor but, i don't believe it to be the case. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The suspension compressor is behind the front bumper left hand side in direction of trave,l so that would not appear to be the culprit. What is on the RH side of the engine bay that moves ? Your car is LH drive and a V8,l so I am not up-to-speed on that engine.

Could it be an air spring ?

Does it speeds up when you rev the engine?

Probably the VVTs being a bit noisy until oil pressure brings all the parts under lubrication. That happens on my 05 and 03 as well. Check your oil level, mine was at MIN and I noticed the ticking more often because of this, I'm sure.

I have exactly the same noise and believ its cold weather related as well, that is until the car warms up. And yes my XJR uses more oil in the winter, so I need to check the oil level more often then. I believe the noise is the lifters.

I had this on a Saab and I think it was a hydraulic lifter.

It went away after a while.

My 2004 does this, I had this on a 4.0 jeep once and it was the lifters. Only prob would be if you wanted to fix this you have to replace the whole bank of lifters as you cannot tell visually which one is causing it.

Sounds like the noise is coming purge valve. will make clicking noise for about 30 secs after cold start at idle. normal noise
