Coil Conversion strut - XJ8
So the previous owner converted over to coil shocks, whoever installed them seemed to have over tightened the 4 bolts that hold the strut mount in place under the hood. Has anyone experienced with this? Being the its attached at the lower control arm and in the mount sleeve it slides into, is it okay? I mean its driving beautifully, but its bothering me when I sleep at night. Can a shop just drill out the bolts and tap holes to drive bolts into the mount itself? Or is getting a whole new strut going to be the answer? Any advice or answers are much appreciated.

I am a bit puzzled by your thread. Each strut, air and coil, is secured at the top by 4 bolts. On the air shocks these are part of the strut and are secured by 4 self-locking nuts tightened securely. Replacement struts with coil springs just fit into the same 4 holes in the turret. Any flexibility needed for suspension movement is taken elsewhere. If you want a definite reply, please post a photo.

Surely you aren't trying to remove the struts from underneath the fender/wing! The bolts are part of the strut, not part of the car. The strut is removed by removing the nuts you see above the sheet metal, under the hood/bonnet or in the trunk/boot. They can't be tightened so hard as to be unremovable; the bolts would break first.
