coolant replacement choices 2004 xj8
hello, looking to do a complete coolant flush and exchange on my 2004 xj8 with 21,000 miles. has original jag pink coolant in it. two products that meet the wss-m97b44-d specification are zerex dex-cool 50/50 concentrate antifreeze part # zrx zxelru1, and Peak Global Extended Life 50 / 50 Anti-Freeze Part #: PEA 00243. jag dealers won't help - only say use jag coolant for $100 plus dollars. any suggestions between the two as to which would be the best choice and closest to oem jag coolant? does anyone know who manufacturers jags coolant for them? thanks for the suggestions! (i'm new to the forums, hope i did this right!)

thank you for the quick reply. even though the peak global meets the WSS-M97B44-D specification, you would choose the dex-cool? the advantage of the peak product is that i can use it in my other cars. also, what is your opinion on using chemical flush products in this automobile and your preferred product if recommended? thank you very much!

Wait, 21k miles? Nice! Treat that one properly and it should be around quite a while!
I agree with Meiron1 - as long as they meet the spec. But DEX-COOL is a proven solution (in both senses) in these cars. The only way I have seen folks run into trouble is mixing the Green IAT (Inorganic Additive Technology) with OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Dex-cool is the most popular brand - Orange in color - I have seen photos of systems full of gelled coolant where green and Orange colors are inadvertently mixed. DON"T go strictly by color, but consider it an indicator that you need to double check, especially if you are mixing or just adding. A FULLY flushed system can take any coolant, but matching the manufacturers spec is always wise.
I got my 07 VDP with Pink coolant in it and was concerned about mixing, but some brands of OAT Coolant are Pinkish in color and at worst its P-HOAT (Phosphated HOAT) which at least is not likely to gel with a bit of OAT in it, I HOPE. When I change it out in another year or 2 -OAT is supposed to maintain properties for 5 years, I will switch to DEX-Cool or equivalent I figure. I have only added a couple ounces to top up the expansion tank. If I need to add more, I will flush it. For now it looks fine and works as expected.
Another one I would avoid like the plague is the "Mixes with any type" - In my experience anything that claims to be good at anything is usually sub-par in everything.
Here's a quick, basic primer on Anti-Freeze types - showing which Car Brands use which type - and of course Jaguar is not listed. Good explanation of the chemical properties at a high level though.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the oem jag coolant has 2-eh in it? dex-cool does. "OAT / DEX-COOL® contains ethylhexanoic acid (2-EH) as a corrosive inhibitor. 2-EH is prone to damage plastics like Nylon 66 used in intake manifold gaskets and radiators. G30 OAT and Peak Global OAT do NOT use 2-EH. Air was also determined to be a major factor in causing system breakdowns."
