Default Cost for a new windshield?

Sadly I will be in need of a replacement windshield soon. Mine has the electric heating grid in it - I don't know if this is a standard item or an option. Can anyone advise of what a typical replacement cost will be in Canada or the US?

Hi Gazoo,

Thankfully I haven't needed to replace our X350 windshield, but if you will call the local independent auto glass shops in your area, as well as the local Safelite franchise, you will get a variety of quotes.

Ask the independents for the brands of glass they have access to for your car (there may be only one or two companies that offer replacements with the heating elements). The glass in our '04 was made by Saint Gobain-Sekurit, a French-based international conglomerate that also supplies Audi, VW and Cadillac.

Other brands I've had good success with are PPG (now PGW, I think, which supplies Daimler-Benz and others), and Pilkington (a huge conglomerate that provides glass to Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford, Daimler, VW, BMW, Volvo and others).

Cheers,

Don
