Cupholder replacement/options

Cupholder replacement/options
At the risk of sounding like Homer Simpson is a classic Season 2 or 3 episode (the one with Danny Devito as car maven), the tiny cupholders in the X350 have got to go.
I found this part on a dealer's website and wonder if it holds bigger cups:
CUPHOLDER IN CENTER CONSOLE - C2C26874 (It says it replaces another part so maybe it replaces original cupholder. It looks like maybe one cup is larger -- probably the driver's side.)
The X350 is crying out for some aftermarket cupholders. Forget aftermarket wheels, etc. We need some cupholders.
Maybe we could "bore out" the existing cupholders like cylinders in a Harley engine to increase the cc's. I would even put a chrome badge on my trunk lid with something like "HCC" for High-Capacity Cupholder."

Why stop at a cupholder?
But seriously...that p/n C2C26874 is only listed for X350's with VIN G45172 onwards, and it appears that there is no backwards compatibility.
Don't know what year / VIN yours is though...
Interesting that the one in this ebay sale New Jaguar XJ8 2004 2009 Center Console Cup Holder C2C26874 | eBay definitely shows one being bigger than the other.
For $27 it might be worth the punt, but I doubt it will be a straight swap...
OR
Just try removing it completely? https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-my-str-52085/

After reading the thread in the S-Type forum, I went out to the car dreaming of a big wad of £50 notes being stashed in there by the previous owner. The cup holders came out to reveal....nothing except the little rubber tray...
But they do come out, just pull in the middle between the two circles.
No idea about the Homer, I just googled it....

Also, I could have owned this car 20 years and never found that compartment under the cupholder. How cool is this car? If you had something like a Big Gulp or a huge coffee mug, you could just go without the cupholder in there.
Cambo, thanks again for the reference to that thread about removing the cupholder.

So I received my new cupholder, and it is a match and holds normal-sized drinks! One hole is bigger and the other is about the size of the stock cupholder holes.
There are no springy things; it's just a plastic cupholder. So not as fancy as stock, but you can actually use it. I recommend the switch.

Cupholder removal
When I read this thread I went out and tried to pull the cup holder out of the console. It would not budge, at least not with the amount of force I was willing to exert. I DO NOT want to break my beautiful pet Jaguar.
Last week I was out in the boonies driving a curvy road in the SF Bay area. I stopped for a cold drink at a Burger King. When I returned to the car I had to sort of cram it down into the hole to get it to fit.
A little while later I tried to take a sip and it would not come out! So I sort of wiggled it back and forth while pulling up, and up she comes, cup, cup holder and all!
So, I think I might try the one linked in this thread.

Maybe over time various foreign substances get in between the surfaces and make them stick together.
By the way, I am enjoying my car much more with a functional cupholder. I urge everyone to do this. No other $30 investment will change your driving experience to this degree.

Try pulling up with more pressure on the rear side. Mine seems to pop out on the rear side first. I just went out and looked at it in my XJ. It is easier if you open the lid on the storage compartment.
I noticed that there is a little divided tray on the bottom of the cavity! I pulled up on it and it came up easily. I suspect its purpose is to catch any condensation drips from the hot or cold liquids in the cupholder. (Its a Jaaaag) The whole cavity is lined with a felt like substance and you do not really need the cup holder to use it. It could be used for additional storage if one wished.
BTW, psg, is that a photo of a Lancaster on your logo?

About 10 years ago I was heading from Edmonton towards a place called Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. We came upon a little air museum that had a Lancaster that was being restored to flying condition. Only one I have ever seen.
Planes are great to watch, but they don't give me the little thrill I get when I go out the door in the morning and there is a Jag waiting for me in the driveway.

2 Planes in the hangar and a seaplane at home and they all give me a thrill just not the same type of thrill
Cheers
