Default Deleting the Fiber Optic system

What components go thru the fiber optics on a 05 XJ8. Are they all radio related and NAV related. Anyone converted this unreliable system to a conventional aftermarket set up. I assume the only hurdle is the integrated AC unit. but i believe there is a conventional unit out there on some models. Anyone? I know some S-Type owners have deleted theirs but they had the manual AC unit to begin with.

The 7-module D2B network shown (pic in JTIS) depicts the greatest number of modules available. D2B networks containing less than 7 modules are always connected in the sequence shown from top to bottom.
Audio Unit – Master Module
1 – CD Autochanger
2 – Cellular Phone Module
3 – Voice Activation Module
4 – Multimedia Control Panel
5 – Navigation Control Module
6 – Power Amplifier
When modules are not fitted to the vehicle, the fiber optic cables and the connectors are deleted. Therefore, each network containing less than 7 modules has a unique fibre optic and "wake up" circuit.

Default Eh what now?

I don't understand the OP's "unreliable" comment. Proprietary maybe, unreliable, err not really IMHO. Fiber is the ultimate in reliability, resilience and immunity to noise. I for one am pretty happy with the electronics in the XJ8 (among other things such as handling, gas economy, looks, quality etc.).

Default How do you know if you have it?

Slightly off topic here, but how do you know if you have the fiber optic in your car? I have an '06 STR with Alpine and NAV. Would I have it?

Thanks!

Im glad yours is working but myself or my jaguar independent mechanic has not been able to pinpont where the problem is. I dont have sound So i want to just toss the jaguar system and put in an aftermaket double din. thats of course if I am able to do this and not hinder other components other then Nav or radio components. Mercedes uses this cable for the Can Bus also.

cacloss your STR should have a similar system like mine. Fiber Optic to control all of the components..

Cacloss, your car has fibre optic cabling for certain items as mentioned in my last post due to the high speed required for data transfer

are you tying to delete the screen too?. the fiber optic if for audio only,i have seen cars that are tethered and they mount the original radio in the trunk remotely the nav module unit in the rear is used for displaying the ac controls the ac module goes to the ipac as a can message and the ipac converts the signal to a scp then it send the signal to the nav module, then that sends a scp signal to the display, you can retain the screen and its function, and just replace the audio unit.

Good to know. But I ended up finding the problem before jumping ship. It was the CD changer not powering up and causing a break in the Fiber Optic line. It is now deleted and sound is back. Thanks for the responses.
