Do I really need Jaguar Brand Coolant
My Jag xj at 84k miles has the original coolant. It is overdue for a flush. I plan to drain the old and fill 100% with distilled water, run engine, then drain it all out. Is there a substitute antifreeze that will work good without damage? I have read every post on this site regarding this and there seems to be no clear answer. The Jag stuff is just overpriced big time.

I have a clear answer for you. Go to StraussAuto or Autozone and get 2 containers of Prestone Dexcool orange. I forgot the cost, somewhere around $20 for both.
Jaguars specs are on the overflow tank's cap, and that prestones meets the certifications. I recently replaced my fluid and all is well.
It was tricky filling since initially it only accept about 2liter (vs 6liter capacity). If I were to do it again i would fill it with the motor running vs. not running.

Yea that information exists, but the circumstances dont justify them.
If it damges your system, you can hold prestone responsible for the damage since they are claiming their product worthy.
The name may not be exactly as I wrote it so just make sure you get the proper coolant by checking the overflowtank's cap and the back of the container
