Door chime issue?

Hi everyone.
I'm still new to the site and Jag ownership having only bought my 2003 XJ Sport last month.
I have a small issue that I wanted to see if anyone had some advice on.
The issue is with the door chime. It seems to only work intermittently and sometimes when it does work it sounds like the speaker that makes the noise is just about blown as it crackles and is distorted sounding. I'm not sure if it's actually called the door chime but I have heard it called that on other vehicles. It's the part that makes a ding when you leave the key in the ignition and open the door or if you leave the lights on and open the door without the vehicle running. The part also seems to make a ding when you first insert the key and start up the vehicle and also is used to make the clicking when the turn signal is activated.
Anyone have any thoughts? Is there actually a door chime module that may need replacing?
Thanks,
Tom
