Door Speakers stopped working

Door Speakers stopped working
Does anyone have any ideas on what my problem might be. I have a 2008 XJ and a while back I noticed in playing a CD that it didn't sound right. It had a thin sound, and I had to turn it up louder than I usually do to hear it good. This just happened out of the blue. In checking this out on this site, and other places, some people were saying that it was probably a blown speaker, or that Alpine speakers sometimes have a problem with the wire corroding that goes to the speaker cone. I didn't think that it was either of those as it would seem to me that if a speaker blew out, or it was a problem with the wires that it would be a certain speaker and in my case it is the door speaker in both front doors, and maybe the rear doors as well. One other reason that I think it's something else is that I noticed that when I press the DSP button that allows you to have just the rear speakers on, or front, or all, that that is not working properly. When I put it on rear speakers it still plays in the front (only the small speakers on top of the dash) or if I click it to play only the speakers on the right side it just keeps playing the way it is with nothing changing. I was wondering if I did a reboot, or refresh the radio if that might fix it, or if it may be another problem.

Have a play with the fade front rear/ left right and that will let you know where you have sound. Do you have the Premium Alpine sound system? Don't be surprised if you have multiple failed speakers. I noticed I had a problem when I had to have the volume higher than usual, I think it was usually about 12 but it was now around 20.

Basically, solder a jumper wire across the plastic bridge to the speaker coil. Total of 2 per speaker.

The speakers don't tend to "blow" so much as the wire corrodes and the speaker stops working. The fix is to solder in a jumper wire, which is a bit fiddly to do. Here is how to fix it: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...failure-68885/
I believe there is a link in that thread that shows how to take the door panels off too.

Yes very good advice and hopefully you can repair your speakers with the jumper fix. Now it's a bit fiddly as they say so take your time.
I had 7 bad speakers in a 2008 XJ I was working on. Only one was repairable using the jumper trick.
But I did get working used ones from EBay. Just be sure and make the vendor state in writing they are working speakers and will be replaced if they don't work.
I even asked one guy to put a meter on the speaker leads to make sure they were connected.
I found this was much cheaper than going with after market or new factory units.

I guess I'll try doing the jumper wire fix, but the other thing that is bothering me is why when I hit the DSP button that allows you to control which speakers are playing, it is not functioning properly. When I put it to just play the rear speakers it still plays the speakers on the dash in the front. I mentioned that in my post, but nobody seemed to remark on that. I was wondering if whatever is causing that could be causing my speakers to not work. I guess I'm looking for something else that it might be before removing my door panels. I really hate to remove all my panels. It's probably just in my mind, but I'm afraid that they won't go back on just right, and that something will be screwed up.

I have a 2008 XJ VDP - had to have all of the front speakers replaced about a year ago. I didn't notice much ongoing degradation until one too many quit and then had it looked at. With all new the car sound is back to normal. I think the dealer price was about $1200 for stock replacement.

I hope these downloaded pictures can be seen. They came out so big and I couldn't see how to reduce them. Anyway, I'm in the process of removing my door panel to get to the speaker and solder a jumper wire to get my speaker to work again. I stopped and wanted to post these pictures as I was having trouble getting the panel off, so I have some questions along with these pictures as I don't want to damage anything. So for anyone that has done this could maybe help me out. I removed all the necessary screws and my first question is, in the first picture does the wood trim piece around the door handle have to be removed in order for the whole door panel to come off? That black plastic cup thing around the tweeter has to come off in order for the door panel to slip off over the handle, but I wasn't sure if the wood trim had to be off as well. I saw a guy on You Tube remove his and it looked so easy, but mine was not coming off. I was trying to remove it and it wasn't coming off easily so I stopped as I didn't want to break it. His came off easily, but his XJ was a different year and maybe it's not the same. In the second picture, I assume I'm trying to pry it between the black plastic piece and the metal. That is where I was trying and it just wasn't working very well, and once again I didn't was to force things too much and damage it..And the third picture is the same area just not so close up. And the last thing, on the first picture, and It's not in the picture, but towards the hinge of the door in front of the grey upholstery there is a black plastic piece, kind of a triangle shape, and I was wondering if that is part of the door panel that comes off. I assume that it does. I guess what I'm saying in all of this is I'm having trouble seeing what the complete door panel that I am trying to remove consists of, it's kind of hard to tell.

They're on tight and hard to remove the first time, wood trim and black tweeter/door handle cover stays on the panel, there's a wire door cable behind it, that needs to be removed once the panel is off. Start at the bottom corner. Remove the white panel with the dark top section, not the black plastic on the sides and bottom. So, pry between the black plastic and the white panel, not the metal door & black plastic.

Thank you JagstrRJX. Great information. And the link you gave me was very helpful with the pictures he had, and also his looks to be the same year as mine which makes it easier. The videos that I had been seeing were earlier years then mine and just weren't built the same I don't think. I can do this now with more confidence.

Solder wire across the plastic bridge, each speaker and you'll be back in business!
