Door Wood Trim Removal and Dash Center Vent Replace
Hello,
I have two questions for my 2006 Jaguar XJ8:
- To remove the wood trim on all doors, do I need to remove the entire door panel or can the trim be removed using a trim tool (i.e. does it snap out or do I need to remove the door panel and access screws, etc.)?
- The center vents on the dash (the ones on either side of the clock) are warped due to sitting in the heat. Do I need to replace the entire unit (the plastic that contains the clock, vents, etc.) or can the vents (the horizontal slats that control air direction) be popped out and replaced with new ones?
Thanks.
EDIT - It looks like I have to pop a small cover off just behind the inside door handle to access a screw, unscrew the screw, remove the black cover (the oval piece behind the door handle) and then (hopefully) just pop off the wood trim pieces. Does this sound right? I've not tried it yet because the new parts aren't in and I'd ordered some trim removal tools that won't get here for a few days.

You need to remove the door card to replace the wood trim, there is a clip at the front end that holds it in place. If you could get it off I doubt you would be able to get it on again.
to remove the door card you need to:
1x screw behind the plastic cap in the door open handle,
2x screws in the pull the door close handle, easy to see no caps here.
1x plastic scrivit type screw the is on the very bottom of the door card, careful it is plastic, unscrew it unitl it is almost out then pull it screw part to remove it.
1x screw hidden behind a cap on that triagular bit that covers the door mirror, that triangular bit should then pull off.
ow pull around the edge of the door card to get it off, be carfull of the door lights I disconect mine after the card is off rather than remove it from the front. I always feel I will break that brittle plastic when trying to get them out. They are a push fit into the card but more of a yank and swear to get them out.

And does anyone know about replacing the horizontal fins on the center dash air vents (the ones you can touch and move up/down to control air)? Do I have to completely replace the entire piece (clock, etc.) as one unit or can I somehow remove the fins and replace them? I do have a complete unit, but if I don't have to tear apart the dash, I'll be very happy.

I just got my replacement wood trim in and I don't see why I'd have to remove the entire door card. Here's a photo of the back of the trim:
All the notches are facing the same way. It looks like I can remove the screw and the plastic cap behind the open door handle and then just slide this out. I might have to pop out (slightly) the post that's just under the "4", there's nothing else holding this in place but the plastic cap that fits in the opening.
EDIT - Okay! Now I see. There's a clip (or something) holding the front post tight. To get this on correctly, the entire door panel needs to come off. So, yes, you can remove the wood trim without taking the entire panel off, but you cannot put it back correctly unless you do. Which is EXACTLY what I was told to begin with. :P
