Anyone know where the compressor is located on a 2008 XJ?
Where it always has been, behind the front bumper on the left hand side. Access can be gained by (1) taking off the bumper, or (2) removing the wheel arch liner and accessing via the wheel arch. I think you have to take the road wheel off too.

Hey Andy, I've copied this post as a new thread into the new members section as an intro for you........

This gives the members a chance to welcome you onboard properly...

It turns out that these Wabco units are actually very well made, but the "weak" part was the PTFE piston ring, so either being a tight Scotsman not wanting to pay for a new compressor or using my engineering experience (i think the 1st is more realistic) I decided to make a new ring to try to refurbish the compressor & with great results.

A few of your members got in touch and pointed out to me this compressor can be found on the XJ8, & maybe others, this is what the above discussions have been we have been reading about, so although I am not a Jaguar owner i would like to be a member here if you will have me & if you have any compressor questions feel free to ask me, and i will try to help if i can, any knowledge shared is money saved (or is that the Scots thing again!!)

best regards

Andy

I've just ordered one for myself... for future use. I'm thankful that a fix has been worked out for the compressor failures.

Am I right in understanding that this makes the more drastic options, like the Arnott coil conversion, unnecessary?

There are a many things that can cause the air suspension system not to function properly such as a failed air shock due to the internal air bladder leaking (means replacing the shock); to the air hose that connects to the top of the shock leaking but which can typically be fixed by replacing the little rubber "0" rings; to a failed rely; to a failed suspension module, to a failed air suspension compressor. It seems the air suspension compressor will mainly wear out in its ability to supply enough air volume to keep the air shocks at their proper height, typically around 40-50K miles mark from what many have reported. By replacing the ring inside the air compressor from this kit you can renew the air compressor and save a lot of money...$50 USD vs $400 USD for a new air compressor.

If one wants to elimiate all of these possible issues, than that is where the decission of converting all of the air shocks over to the Arnott or Motorcars coilover kits would be made which are typical shocks with springs type system.

I have sent an email to Andy and he has relisted on Ebay, see the the link Andy has posted in the next response from him under Bagpipingandy.

You are incorrect. The most expensive component is the four air over shock units. The bladders leak and fail usually overworking the compressor and hastening its demise.

I've acquired a repair kit, and intend to do the install when I do a tire rotation. I also want to make sure my other car is working before I tear into something that could very well cripple its use if I jack it up. Just being careful. I'll follow up after its finished to report.
