Driver door will not lock. (neither manually or with key fob)

Prior to today I could lock the doors using the key or the handle/lever on the inside. As of this morning, the key is prevented from turning far enough to the right and the manual lock handle/lever is likewise stuck in the ulocked position.

When pressing Lock/Unlock on the remote there is an audible motor whine, but no lock.

Did a soft reboot, (removed battery negative for 5 mins)
Did a harder reboot (removed both positive and negative and let sit for a couple hours) Neither fixed the issue.

Suggestions?

 

The door lock is controlled by the DDM (Driver Door Module) and the FEM (Front Electronics Module). These are not cleared/reset by a hard reset (reboot).

The door latch is a combined electric and mechanical device. The audible whine is a good sign as it suggests the latch isn't dead. There's two linkage rods connect the door latch to the door handle and lock. One or both of these could be sticking.

I haven't worked on an X350 door latch but there is likely to be a number of microswitches in it as there is in other Jaguar models. These can fail.

To make progress on this issue you are going to have to remove the door trim panel to be able to see exactly what is happening.
