Driver window will not close fully
Hi Guys
I have an Xj6 X350 2007
When I try to close the driver window It makes an effort but gets half way up then opens fully. After a few trys the window gets nearly to the top and stops ( about an inch short of the top )
It opens fine
Any thoughts out there please

I believe there is a feature which is designed to reverse the motor if it thinks something is getting caught in the closing window, It senses pressure on the unit, before full closure, and reverses the operation.
Probability is that the mechanism that lifts the window is jamming up, maybe just needs some lubrication, or it's dried out too much and is rusted and siezing up.

Try pressing 'Down' and holding the button there for several seconds after the window is 'Down', then pressing 'Up' and holding the button for several seconds after the window is 'Up' and then keep doing this until the stupid computer figures out what 'Up; & 'Down is?
Failing that, try a 'hard reset' (disconnect your Earth battery lead from its terminal and then touch it to your Battery positive terminal) and then do as above, plus slowly press your accelerator pedal to the floor five times with the ignition on (position 2) but engine not started to 'set' your throttle body? ?

I'd vote for a gooched window regulator inside the door. I've not done this work on the XJ-8 but had to repair or replace the regulators on a couple of other cars with electric windows.
A lot of times it's the cable that has lost its way off the pulleys or somehow became misaligned. Since the motor is getting you halfway there, you can remove the interior door trim and take a look. As others have said it may just be binding and a good lube with silicone, WD-40, etc.might suffice. It the regulator is damaged they can be found 're-claimed- at various eBay motors stores. I use tomsforeign.com from time to time. They have a front driver side regulator assembly at present for $100. Good luck.

Sometimes the window track felt gets dry or debris gets lodged and the 'anti-trap' feature is enabled to prevent injury.
The system does not 'know' if the track is faulty or a child's head is in the way?
You can grab the window on it's way up to 'help it' to see if the extra lift can overcome the 'sticky' section.
You do risk getting your fingers 'pinched' so you might want to pay attention to what you are doing!!!!

Quick note; the window glass probably will want to slide back into the door as you fiddle with the regulator, motor, etc. I used a good grade of painters tape to hold the glass in place by taping it to the window frame. Took a couple pinched fingers to figure this out. And wear mechanics gloves. The metal on the lift mechanism can be super sharp. Good luck.

I am somewhat late to this thread. However for future reference: There is the safety function so the window will not trap someone in it. There is an override that will bypass this safety.
After the initial attempted window closing with antitrap
activation, operate the close switch a second
time within ten seconds. The window will attempt to
close again and the anti-trap will activate.
– Operating the window close switch a third time will
override the anti-trap feature. Each subsequent press
of the window switch will operate the window motor
at full power and should overcome the window
obstruction.

Congrats on solving! Did you make any pictures of that cable? Seems i experience the same issue but my window just goes twice slowly than passenger's and frequently stops and goes fully down when activeted on the move.

If might be worth spraying WD40 on the window tracks first in case they are sticky or dirty
in my case the cable wrapped around the cog at the motor and ultimately snappedI didn't take any pictures sorry but job I did took about an hour and half and was reasonably straight forward but a bit fiddlely getting the clips off the window.
