Default Drivers Door Module

Just joined here, so be gentle.
recently purchased a 2008 V6 xj350, I bought it with key fob fault, dealer said it was an intermittent fault..anyway..after some research (namely going through service printout) I found the fault was reported over ha year before I bought the car by previous owner...contacted the main dealer who diagnosed fault at the time as drivers door module..but previous owner declined to have it replaced....anyway, my question is...if I buy a used DDM from the well known auction site...
A..does it need programming to my car ?...I know fobs need to be paired
B..are these units only compatible with the original VIN number, ie, can’t be used on another vehicle

Hi Gary

Complete failure of a module is fairly rare but there was a recent post here by someone

who had the same problem as yourself.

I recommended that the OP removed the DDM and cleaned the plugs and sockets on it.

BTW I assume you have tried replacing the battery in the remote.

Have a look at the connections for any signs of oxidation or corrosion

and while you have it out you could carefully try opening it up and have a look inside for any

similar signs.

I don't know the answers to A and B but if all else fails

you could try a replacement since they are not expensive second hand.

Hi, this issue was present before I purchased the car, it was a one owner from new, all maintenance and services carried out at the supplying dealership from new, it was a quick call to them that told me what the issue was as they did the original diagnosis...god knows why the previous owner didn’t want it replaced as it was only quoted at £360.
anyway, I’ve got one on the way, I can fit it myself, and it’s then booked into an independent for programming..
fingers crossed, I’ll update the thread as soon as it’s done

People are strange sometimes, when things start getting a little age, as well as miles.
Better dump it, after all its 11 years old, and what is going to break next?

Default Update

First day off work, fitted the replacement DDM, things have progressed.
paired the key and everything works fine...BUT once you lock the car, the fob won’t unlock it again, only thing that responds ion the fob is the lights on button, and when you unlock the car with the key, the alarm goes off....THEN...the fob works again as it should, boot release etc etc...until you lock the car again...then back to square one..I am presuming that this will all be down to programming....which should be sorted tomorrow at the independent jag dealer.

as a note..lost the spare key..had it last week when messing about with both fobs..trying to pair and checking batteries....put the spare down..can’t for the life of me remember where

Look in the car, under, and around your seat.

Errrrrrm, my son who’s a Kawasaki technician (not that it has any relevance) just asked if he could check the car for the spare key...he found it...down the side of passenger seat tucked out of sight...what a plum I am lol

Default Final update

Took the jag to the independent dealer this morning, DDM calibrated to car, everything is working as it should, only cost £60 for them to do the job.
i was originally told by jag main dealer that these DDMs are non programmable...which is strange as it clearly says on the front of the module “this unit is programmable” but the main dealer wouldn't have it...they told me the unit is synced to each car by VIN number, and are non interchangeable.
anyone else having this issues...you can buy used units from the internet..very easy to fit...I found all the info I needed to remove door-card etc on this forum....and any independent can program the unit....hell of a lot cheaper than main dealers

Thumbs up

Only a guess;
Keys memory holds only so much.
Maybe since the dealer cleared has all the previous programming.
Starting over, is just what was needed, for things to work properly.
Both of my cars were programmed, at the locksmith shop, after their purchase.
This way any old keys, still out there, are now unable to start the car.
